Hi, i’m very new to Adobe Premiere, so sorry in advance if this question is maybe to obvious.

When using an AVI file in Premiere, it seems all okay, but as soon as you bring it in the timeline, the ‘sequence01’ only seems to give me a black screen, but with sound! What is going on, here? Sometimes is the playback from the sequence somewhat like distorted snow/greenish. I tried already many diffrent ‘options’ but none of them gives a good result. Although, in the forst monitorscreen, does it playback the movie, it is only in the timeline, or controlescreen for the sequence. Please, help me…

I have the same problem, do I need to re-encode the .avi file using a different codec?

Well, I did use a couple of Xvid videos in Premiere 2 recently without issue (which did surprise me…)

Premiere really isn’t meant to support it natively, so if it does, you’re in luck. I would Google Xvid to AVI converter and see what you can find, sorry that’s all the advice I can give you.

Premiere Elements 3 can play most any video that will play in Windows Media Player.

well, I’m really sorry, but I have no idea!

    How can I know that?

I downloaded a thing that tells me all codecs I’ve installed in my computer… but that’s it…

In the link I provided there are links to GSpot (among others) that will look inside you AVI file and tell you what codecs are used.

    Cheers

ok, I downloaded GSpot, and here it is:

Codec: CVID(_RGB) Name: BI_RGB Raw Bitmap

and also says: No codec required….
