Try creating a new project in CS4 and import the original CS3 project. That sometimes works better.

I don’t think so, but let’s not rule that out completely. Go to the manufacturer’s Web site and look for the driver there. They really should have one available for download.

One other consideration, what are your ASIO settings?

A few suggestions:
1. Check that your disks are defragged.
2. Run a disk checking utility to look for problems.
3. Check if there are unnecesary processes running in background and shut them down. Processor time is precious on an NLE workstation.

I understand how you feel, but I must point out that it is not the developers who make the decisions. I am a developer myself and managers have to pry software away from us with a crowbar. There are always things that need improving, but the software has to get out the door at some point. 😉

Are you sure you have the AME 4.0.2 update? I believe that fixed the QT export problems. If so, then export to a lossless format and use QT Pro to encode to QT format. Otherwise sit tight until NAB when the much anticipated 4.1 update is due.

Yes, there is a considerable difference between simply playing back a video and editing it. PPro has to do more work when playing video on the timeline than a media player has to do when playing back a file on disk.

You can improve PPro’s performance by rendering the timeline.

You will also find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.
