Yes, it would seem that the 285/120 combo has better performance, and is certainly cheaper, than the 4000/120 combo. Note that if you have interest in rendering 4K images, the extra RAM on the 4000 and 4800 cards might be useful.
In a strictly Resolve centric context, it would seem like selling your ATI card and putting the money toward a 285/120 combo might make sense. However, I can not comment about the impact to the other apps you mention. It’s possible that the ATI card might be a better choice in relation to those apps.
Perhaps others in the community might have comments and/or suggestions to help you decide.

Since you are not using a recommended or tested configuration, it’s hard to say what might work best. If you follow the Mac config guide, things should work well. If you go off guide, you are sort of on your own to sort out what works best, or at all.

I just did a test of removing the GTX-285 card from our test system, leaving only the GT-120 in place. You get a warning that it’s using the GT-120 for processing, and a recommendation for better cards to use. But if you just ignore that warning, the system does work. Just very slowly.

Thanks for that information. I just pulled the 285 card out of my test system, and I see the message you are describing. So I guess that means the app doesn’t see the card for some reason. If you run the Mac System Profiler, does it show the 285 card in slot 1?
Can you send a copy of your System Profile file to davincihelp@blackmagic-design.com with a description of the issue you see?

I’m assuming that the Mac Config guide is being followed, and that the 4800 card is in slot 1, where it needs to be. If that is a bad assumption, please make sure the 4800 card is in slot 1 and the 120 card is in slot 2.

You would have a problem with the 285/5770 combo in that the 285 card needs 2 of the 2 power connectors available in the Mac. Leaving no power connectors for the 5770, which requires one.
But the 285 and a GT120 would be a great combo.

What do you mean by the 4800 not being recognized? Where do you see that indicated?
In another thread, it was suggested opening and saving the Preferences, to ensure multi-GPU awareness. I would not think that would impact your scenario, but it would be something to try.

I’m already getting calls about this, so thought I’d post a note here. On the Blackmagic Design web site, in the DaVinci Support section, the Resolve software links are still pointing to the 7.0.3 version. That will be updated shortly. In the mean time, just go back to the main BMD site, and select the Support link. On the Support page, select the Software Downloads link. Then scroll down to the Color Correction section. There you will find links for the Linux and Mac versions. Those links will download the 7.1 Resolve version.

Your question mirrors one that was just responded to on the davincihelp mail list. Here is the answer that was provided there:
The proxy manager is supported for file based formats, like DPX, CIN, etc. It’s not supported for clip formats like Red, Quicktime, etc.

The trim_lut0.dpx file is in Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/
