  • I’m pretty sure I deleted the media. They were Render Files and I cleaned those out not too long ago.

I assume since they’re Render Files that the actual clips that FCP is looking for is not in any Bin in my Browser but exist only in a timeline.

This is not an issue with disk permissions.

  • FCP 6.0.3

  • Thanks for tips.

In the future I’ll definitely mark the clips ahead of time.

My director said he needed an uncompressed Quicktime on a DVD to give to a festival director (or something along those lines). But, of course, and uncompressed version gives me a 32GB file so there’s no way that’s going to happen.

What I think I’m going to do is plug the DVCPRO HD file into Compressor and export it with an H.264 compression at around 40000kbits per second. That sound like my best option.

Thanks for all the speedy replies! I really appreciate it.

I don’t think there is. 300 dots per inch is the lowest resolution you want to print at and you have a 1280x720px image at 72dpi (or at least that’s what resolution FCP exports my 720p24 footage at).

So basically it won’t work unless you’re going to print at 4.3×2.4 inches.

What I found myself doing is laying down the entire shot I want to time remap in a new timeline and playing around with it until I got it where I wanted it. Then cut off any excess unwanted footage from each end and plug it back into my original sequence. Also, I never use keyframe smoothing, most of my changes weren’t drastic enough to warrant the headache that comes with smoothing.

I know this is probably not the best way to do it. But it’s what worked for me.

  • DVCPRO HD, that’s what I was exporting at too.

What codec are you editing with?

Ahhh, good call. DVCPRO HD, so I’m assuming that’s what the codec is when I export.

After going into the Quicktime Conversion window click on the Options… button next to Format. Within the options window check and make sure the Size is the correct aspect ratio that you want to export to.

I’m pretty sure the broadband and ipod settings you chose affect the codex/compression only, not the aspect ratio.
