Hi, I’m working in FCP 5.1.4 on an HDV 720p24 project, exporting a couple of still images from the dailies as jpegs. I have the options set on best quality for the jpegs, but my marketing guru is telling me he needs 300 dpi jpegs and my exports aren’t cutting it.

Is there a way to get 300 dpi jpegs out of my project?

    Thanks for any info

I also captured my dailies as Quick Times via firewire directly from the camera, the JVC gy-hd100u. Thanks!

I don’t think there is. 300 dots per inch is the lowest resolution you want to print at and you have a 1280x720px image at 72dpi (or at least that’s what resolution FCP exports my 720p24 footage at).

So basically it won’t work unless you’re going to print at 4.3×2.4 inches.

I had to send some shots from my little Canon powershot camera for publication. They also wanted 300dpi. The camera makes its pictures at 180dpi, and in this case were 2272×1704 pixels. Opened shots in Photoshop and used Image Size to convert dpi to 300. Obviously, it couldn’t make the pictures any better, but the saved JPEGs say that they’re 300dpi. The pictures got printed with no questions asked, and looked just fine at the small size they appeared at in the magazine. If they had wanted them for a cover, that would have been a much different story. There are PS plugins that can uprez with very high quality interpolation, if that need arises.

Hi Chuck. Another question … Any suggestions regarding those PS plugins? And how does that up rez interpolation work? Thanks, Rich
