If it’s just for a family end of the year treat then the quality loss is hardly worth considering. I recently took all of the videos I’ve made over the past year and made a 3 minute music video out of them, and, as I said, picture quality loss is almost non-existent to the human eye, and I use an HDTV for a monitor.
Obviously the quality would not be acceptable for broadcast, but if you’re not handing the file over to the BBC or Discovery Channel, then go with previously rendered. I say this as an amateur of course, but even the pro’s above me will kind of agree. Right?

Not even Windows Explorer will search inside folders. You have to be in the folder that the file is located in. You’d think by now…

In the meantime, what you could do is highlight your low passage, choose the noise removal plugin, then reduce the effect it has so that you’re not completely removing your low passages. Then just increase the overall clip’s decibel range. That’s probably as close to automatic as you can get.

Actually PPro does have a magnetic timeline that you can turn on and off (hint, it’s the button that looks like a magnet). Another alternative is to just undo the clip placement and do it again.

Hey Tero, that’s what I’m asking basically. Does “editing mode” affect the performance of Premiere Pro in any way? All the choices seem to do is preset the frame size, maybe the audio parameters, etc. but doesn’t seem to affect performance. As I said, I can go in and change the frame size manually if I want and leave it in “Red Cinema” editing mode. I’m guessing guys like you set up their sequence parameters beforehand, whereas I, being an amateur, will drag a clip onto a timeline, and if I decide I want to export the 4K clips as 1080p, I can just go in and change sequence settings without changing editing mode. I don’t have to worry about other people who may be working on the same project.
Does that sound about right?

Next time you run Premiere Pro, if the project panel doesn’t open, open it and then save the workspace so you don’t have to continually open the project panel manually.

It IS easy to learn. I’m a complete amateur, I’m not in the business, I just make little comedy videos for myself. What you’re dealing with are bugs, not the normal way of doing things in PPro.
For me, if I want to load a video or audio track into the source monitor I double click it in the project panel. If I want to load it straight to the program monitor I drag it to the timeline. No right clicking necessary. I only right click to create a new sequence from whatever asset I’m clicking on. If you’re having a problem doing that then once again, it’s one of those individual problems that doesn’t happen to everybody. If I post about a bug and no one responds I know it’s because they’re not experiencing it.

Does the timeline show an audio track? If not, highlight an audio track by clicking on it so it turns blue, then try dragging a file to the timeline.
The only other thing I can think of, and it’s happened to a few of us, is that you have to set the audio hardware in preferences. When you play a clip does the audio meter on the left show that there is audio? If so go to edit>preferences>audio hardware. At the top there’s a dropdown called Device Class. Try changing that. Try changing the other 3 settings. Sometimes they default to other devices that don’t play through your speakers. Remember, only do this if the audio meter and the audio track in the timeline show that there should be audio.
In the meantime, one of the more technical among us will probably come along and give you instructions you can actually understand 😉
