November 13, 2007 at 6:24 am in reply to: Tracking capabilities in AE???

it sounds like the tracking tools in AE would be more than capable of doing this … so long as the TV has some clear tracking points (like maybe the corners where the tv glass meets the edge?)

… keep in mind though, to get a good track you need to spend a bit of time getting it right .. spend a bit more time fixing any little imperfections, and some more time making a convincing composite … there is never (or very rarely) a one-click solution …

hi duffy … i haven’t used flash for a while, but from what I remember I think there is an “export movie” option under the file menu … then you need to choose a file type .. go with quicktime Animation. import this file into AE, do your compiling and then render out using the render queue … again choose quicktime with the Animation codec …

make sure you output from flash at tv resolution .. ie 1024×576 for PAL 16×9

    does this help you?

    Select all layers and precomp:

    Apple + A, then Apple + Shift + C

Select the new Comp layer and hit:

    Apple+Option+R

this sets the stretch value to -100%

October 31, 2007 at 10:07 pm in reply to: IMAGE BUFFER ERROR?????

how much RAM do you have? we have had an ongoing problem with G5s and also a brand new macPro … if we have more than 2gig of RAM we see the error … if we take the extra RAM out and go back to 2gig we see no errors!!!! this was even the case on the brand new, out of the box macPro with 4g RAM … it’s crazy but I just can’t get around the problem …

do you guys with more than 2G of RAM change your RAM cache or just leave it at default?

I’m interested to see other peoples setups and find out why our machines don’t like more RAM

    cheers

October 30, 2007 at 11:04 am in reply to: DVCPROHD and ProRes footage looks dark in AE

hi … unfortunately I can’t help you out on this.. but just for the record we are running CS3 using ProRes and have no gamma shift at all … we are using Blackmagic cards …

  • i think the best option is DVD … to run quicktimes off a server is getting a lot more complicated and expensive …

you would need some sort of authoring software, like DVD Studio Pro or Encore, and just set that track to repeat when it gets to the end … you can make your animation seamless so that the repeat isn’t visible…

you could use DVD RW so long as the DVD player can play them ..

you could make a menu and put a number of different videos on the same disk

we need more information than this … what sort of files are they? what sort of computer are you running? what version of AE? is there an error message? does AE actually freeze? or what?

so you’ve made a 16×9 video and the edges are getting cut off on a standard 4×3 TV? this is called pan-scan …

I’m not sure about windows movie maker, it may not have the necessary options … but what you need to look for is an option for “16×9 letterbox” … this will force the video to be letterboxed rather than pan-scaned…
