IMAGE BUFFER ERROR?????
Posted by Bigboy Creative on October 31, 2007 at 3:25 pmHi,
I’m rendering a after effects7 project out… 3/4’s of the way through the render this message appears:-
After Effects error: could not create 2048 x 1536 image buffer.
(7::39).The composition settings are of a 729 x 576 pal format.
There’s a few plugins I’m using – Knoll light factory, Sapphire etc.
Any Ideas???????
Cheers
Andy

October 31, 2007 at 4:08 pmThe only solution I’ve found for this is to close AE and relaunch.
Other than that, use Task manager or Activity Monitor to see if you’re running out of RAM. If so, access the Secret Prefs: Access Preferences>General, and hold down the shift key until you see the big Prefs dialog. Hold down the shift key longer than you think, if necessary. Click General to see the drop-down, and you’ll see “Secret” at the bottom of the list. Try purging every 5 (or 10 or 15) frames during Make Movie there.

October 31, 2007 at 5:02 pmas steve said, setting the purge every xx frames in the secret pref will usually help with this, but it will slow your render down a bit (it can be pretty noticeable if you are using motion blur or other time effects that use data from other frames).
you can also try lowering the ram cache setting. this will allow for more of your ram to be used for the image buffer. this too can slow your render some, but not as much as purging frames.

October 31, 2007 at 10:07 pmhow much RAM do you have? we have had an ongoing problem with G5s and also a brand new macPro … if we have more than 2gig of RAM we see the error … if we take the extra RAM out and go back to 2gig we see no errors!!!! this was even the case on the brand new, out of the box macPro with 4g RAM … it’s crazy but I just can’t get around the problem …
do you guys with more than 2G of RAM change your RAM cache or just leave it at default?
I’m interested to see other peoples setups and find out why our machines don’t like more RAM
cheers

November 1, 2007 at 6:02 pmhey duff, i had tried searching adobe (once their search feature was back up after the forum redesign), and i could find anything on your issue/solution.
the only thing i found was lowering the ram cache to allow more ram for the image buffer…
you might want to post your findings on the adobe ae forum. especially since it is on both a g5 and an intel-mac.
