If you’re that concerned, reformat the cards, then just hit record on the camera while the lens cover is on and fill the cards up again. That will effectively overwrite anything you had previously. Then one last reformat to clear the cards and you’re set.
Recording at 720p will let you fill up 2 8GB cards in 17 minutes.

June 16, 2007 at 1:40 am in reply to: Any way to get replacement P2 cases & rubber boots? – Jan?I was looking for a difficult-to-find part and Jan turned me on to Marek Kwasnika (KWASNICAM at us.panasonic.com), with the Panasonic Service Department. Tell him what you’re looking for and hopefully he can give you the part number. Then just order it online at https://www.pasc.panasonic.com/epartr/

I absolutely love my Cartoni Focus. Ultra-smooth; fully adjustable dampening; and it’s got a great level that lights up for those night shoots.

Actually you can use any monitor, SD or HD.
If it’s an SD, just go into the camera menu and scroll down to #6: AV In/Out Setup. You can set the Component Out Select for either 720p, 1080i or 480i (the latter being SD).

Frank, are you talking about reformatting the cards while in the PowerBook? If so, I didn’t know that could be done. That would be great. How would I do it? As it now stands, I reformat them in the camera. My big concern is that one day I (or someone) will reformat the one currently in use. Yaahhhh…
I’d LOVE to find a safer way without having to buy a P2 store.
I just upgraded to FCS2. Maybe there’s a more obvious way now.

Thanks for the heads up, Shane. I guess I’m one of the ones not affected, for whatever reason. [knock on wood]

“With the G4 you’ll have to restart the computer after every two card insertions. Odd, but true.”
Shane, I looked at the article links you had but didn’t see anywhere else you mentioned this. Under what conditions are you saying this needs to be done? I have a 1.5GHz PowerBook G4 and have never had to do any restart at all. Never even heard of that being an issue. Is there something more I’m missing?
Thanks,

1.) “most of the FS-100 “issues” seem to be operator error and just plain not reading the manual”
I’m glad to hear that the Firestore is working for you. However, the manufacturer was aware of the problems and issued a few software updates. Not exactly operator error situations. I’m not referring to a loose cable.
2.) “there are just as many “issues” with people using the P2 cards”
Not true where performance is concerned.

Another thought – did you reformat or optimize your G4 drive? If so, the P2 driver that FCP uses might have been moved or altered. Perhaps you just need to reinstall that driver. It’s on the CD, but may also be downloadable if you search online.

Your anger seems a little misplaced – since none of your situation has anything to do with Panasonic. I’m sure you’re just venting – I can imagine that dropping your camera was probably a little embarrasing. But “stuff” happens to all of us. You move on as best you can.
Panasonic doesn’t make the FS100 – and if you’ve ready any of the posts here it seems fraught with issues and many posters don’t trust it. Have you been on the phone with the seller or manufacturer to send a replacement?
You’re actually very lucky the HVX200 is still working after taking a fall that broke the handle. Shows how durable the body is. And it could’ve been much worse – you could’ve dropped it on the lens.
Finally, with (4) P2 Cards you really seem well set to have someone DL’ing the files on one or two of them while you’re shooting out the others. I do that successfully with only (2) P2 Cards.
You’re in Mexico – take a deep breath, suck down a margarita a finish the rest of your shoot. I hope it proceeds without another hitch.
Best,
-Scott
