That’s right. In the timeline the way mine is set up I can expand the timeline until I have the option of selecting one frame or the other to split. It is expanded down to individual frames but selecting one or the other to split may still leave that frame in the other event as a complete frame. . There is no way to split between the frames. I don’t get the option to split between the frames leaving the left frame on the left event and the other frame on the other side of the split in the new event. . There must be another way to set it up to leave one frame in the previous event and the frame on the right side in the other event. In film you cut the film between frames then join the new scene at the cut. Hope this is understandable.

can you make chapters in Vegas movie maker? I have never looked into that. Would be very useful if importing video that is not in chapters.
Thanks
Hope to see you

September 19, 2012 at 4:59 pm in reply to: 2 programs cant handle big complicated fileswhat ever the problem was it was fixed when I rebooted Vegas in default and cleared out all editing memory (what ever you call it) Started from scratch. In the meantime I have created a new one nearly an hour long basing the program on C drive but considerable data on another drive. It renders ok. The problem was made confusing when I tried the two external hard drives on another Vegas program on another computer to check them out. but the same problem existed because of course the new program was using the old data. What ever is was, a new clean reboot fixed it I cant say enough for Western Digital when I suggested that there was a problem with the hard drive on a forum there. Not only did the moderator email me someone at Western Digital actually phoned. I have never had that happen since I can remember. Usually help from a HD manufacturer I have considered useless. I have trashed a couple hard drives recently because they crashed and decided it was useless to try to restore them. Probably good anyway as I no doubt have backups somewhere else.

I believe I was. Now it is on C drive and with the clean boot and on c drive it seems to work ok..I have a good test now ready to go. I am ready to render a project of 55 minutes of stills, video and audio. Based on c drive. Will read some news first before doing the render.

Yes, on my computer it asks to delete memory which does the same thing looks like. I am not running the new program from an external HD but I am using another HD for data. It rendered ok. Later I will run it from a HD.

This entire situation is probably of my making. They usually are. I can contact my sons video editor who uses Vegas Pro but that will be the last resort as I have never done that. But first I will do one more thing I thought I had done which is clear everything out in a restart of Vegas. I did that but may have not cleared editing history. Yes this happened on two different computers but I just transferred the external hard drives to the second one which still used the same data files except what was on the other c drive. .
So I am in the process of starting everything new. Nothing from the problem I had. It worked before it should work now. Who said life was going to be easy. Thanks for the help.

I have two computers and they both acted the same. When you say wipe do you mean format the install windows again? If so I’d rather buy another computer.

I imported another 50 photos from another HD into the program on C drive making about 145 photos. 90 were on c drive and about 50 on the external drive. It rendered ok. Your experience that it can handle almost any amount is ok. Now I will try it and see if it works. Leave stuff on external but have the program on C. I will use that idea and start from scratch again.

I created a new program on an external Seagate 1tb drive from material on that drive of 104 events from photos When it was rendered it crashed. I moved it to c drive and sony rendered it ok. I reduced the number of events (Pictures) to 90 to make sure I did’t miscount and moved it back to the external drive and it rendered ok. Unless I made a mistake I looks like Sony cant handle anything on an external drive over 100 events.
Western Digital is going to call but I will tell them their drive is not the cause of this instance. Today I was working on a Seagate 1tb drive so WD is not the problem. Both drives have crashed. Or the size is not the problem. If I had nothing to do I could use a smaller drive but at the moment I have other things to do. I don’t think a smaller drive would make any difference. I am amazed that I got this kind of response from Western Digital so in the future if possible my purchases will be western Digital drives. Thanks for your help. You really helped a lot.
