2 programs cant handle big complicated files
I’ve got 2 platinum programs on two laptops and it seems that neither can handle a large file. Which consists of maybe 250 or 300 stills, audio, and 10 minutes of total video sections of various lngths. Vegas says the length is about 35 minutes. The second computer started crashing about 65 percent of the render. A similar program 16 mi utes long with no video rendered ok. The file size on the disk was a little over one gig for the 16 minute program. A strange situation occurred with the 16 minute program The test program I rendered had a video break of 2 minutes with the audio continuing to run but the created DVD had continual audio during this break. This would indicate to me that a different program was being rendered than what is being edited. I just copy the destination when I order the movie to be made. I know this can happen because it happened before. Whether the programs that crash have this problem I don’t know. An idea maybe? If this problem rings a bell with any of you please let me know.

To clarify and not leave confusion I have found that the address bar at the top of the page in vegas is not the version in the time line. What the situation is regarding “save as” and “save” is not clear at the moment as it is late and I am too tired to completely figure it out right now but it has to do with ” save as” and “save” when backing up the program. The one selected is not changed in the address bar.

How big are the stills? If they are very large, this could be your problem. HD is only 2MP (mega-pixel) so if you are feeding Vegas 5MP, 8MP or even 12MP images, this may be your problem (especially if you are on a 32-bit OS). Try scaling the images down closer to your project resolution and see if that helps.

what ever the problem was it was fixed when I rebooted Vegas in default and cleared out all editing memory (what ever you call it) Started from scratch. In the meantime I have created a new one nearly an hour long basing the program on C drive but considerable data on another drive. It renders ok. The problem was made confusing when I tried the two external hard drives on another Vegas program on another computer to check them out. but the same problem existed because of course the new program was using the old data. What ever is was, a new clean reboot fixed it I cant say enough for Western Digital when I suggested that there was a problem with the hard drive on a forum there. Not only did the moderator email me someone at Western Digital actually phoned. I have never had that happen since I can remember. Usually help from a HD manufacturer I have considered useless. I have trashed a couple hard drives recently because they crashed and decided it was useless to try to restore them. Probably good anyway as I no doubt have backups somewhere else.
