If you mean splitting an individual frame, that’s something you never ever do as it will mess things up horribly.
You always split on frame boundaries only.

That’s right. In the timeline the way mine is set up I can expand the timeline until I have the option of selecting one frame or the other to split. It is expanded down to individual frames but selecting one or the other to split may still leave that frame in the other event as a complete frame. . There is no way to split between the frames. I don’t get the option to split between the frames leaving the left frame on the left event and the other frame on the other side of the split in the new event. . There must be another way to set it up to leave one frame in the previous event and the frame on the right side in the other event. In film you cut the film between frames then join the new scene at the cut. Hope this is understandable.

I couldn’t follow the link to your blog so I’ll try and explain it to you.

That’s the way things are supposed to work.

A video edit is an electronic edit and MUST be done on the frame boundary.

You have an event with frames 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
You want to split it at frame 4 so you place your cursor at the end of frame 3 and press the ‘s’ key to split it.
The first new event consist of frames 1, 2, and 3.
The second one consists of frames 4, 5 and 6.
It’s as simple as that.
If you decide that you don’t want frames 3 or 4, do another split and delete it.

You can’t/don’t edit video like you do film (physically cutting it) so stop thinking you can.

That explains it Simple enough I was confused about the effect of where the cursor was put. Now another question as long as I have your attention. I have duplicate pictures in the timeline which usually I don’t want there. In the project media panel there is media noted as “copy” Does Vegas say “copy” when a duplicate copy of media is imported from a different folder on the computer than the earlier copy came from? Or is it that I just copied the media twice to the timeline? Knowing which will help a lot

I use Vegas Pro so I’m not sure. A browse of the manual or the online help menu should explain things.

I usually check help for an answer but this question had no answer. I did find out anyway. Copy’s are the result of importing the same picture twice At least in this instance. I have a huge number of duplicate photos. What I need is another “good” duplicate file finder.

The only way to have an image in there more than once is if you put it there. Maybe you had a reason for doing this?

If Movie Studio works the same way Vegas Pro does, change the view in your Project Media tab to “Details” and look in the “Use” column.
If you click on it, it will sort from low to high or high to low.
Anything with “2” or more is probably a duplicate event.

In the screenshot below, there are a number of instances of various events and this is because it was a few long ones that were split up as needed.

There seems to be the same information in my version. Expanding my version shows lots of other columns and lots of other information. In this picture maybe you can see the one jpg that has the number 2 with it. I suppose it was used two times. I had already removed all the copies so I don’t know how they would have looked. But taking out a bunch didn’t change the length of the project so they were not brought into the timeline is the way I read it. But with this information I can soon find out.

I can find an event in project media from the timeline but can i find the media in the timeline from project media?
