  • Sorry to bump this old thread, but, since the re-design I no longer even see the option to View Posts by Topic (Date Updated).

Like Dave, this is my preferred default view… and most of the forums seem to remember this preference, but the FCPX Techniques forum does not and now I can’t reset it.

Overall, I love the new look – great work! I am terribly missing this one little setting though.

[Brett Sherman] “I’d at least consider a hybrid approach. LTO with a secondary hard drive backup.”

This is the route I chose… tapes off-site, hard drives in a cool, dry storage area on-site. I don’t typically need to re-do a previous project, but I often need to retrieve old files for new projects.

MPEG Streamclip will show you an (unscaled) option when you go to export. Use that.

You’ll probably need to change the pixel aspect once you bring the file in.

  • My daily driver is the Areca 8050T2:

    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1032197-REG/areca_arc_8050t2_8_bay_thunderbolt_2_raid.html

Loaded it with 2TB HGST drives and formatted RAID6. The fan is a tad louder than I’d like, but speed and data integrity have been great.

  • [Bob Woodhead] “Well hang on, are these Sony MDRs? Beats? Bose Noise Cancelling? Full cans, in-ear, open air? Analog or digital preamp? And what about the surface they’re laid down upon? Glass, wood, a mousepad? And how about ambient noise…. is the neighbor mowing the grass? How about the party in 3A, is that still underway? OMG- the HVAC… it just kicked on!

    Sigh. SO many unanswered questions.

    My thoughts exactly… 😀

As Oliver pointed out, the only way to do this is export video with baked-in correction. In some cases, you may also see a gamma shift when you bring your newly exported file(s) into 7.

I guess I’m wondering why you wouldn’t simply finish the project in FCPX, now that you’ve got it in there…

Is your timeline interlaced? I’ve seen some really weird stuff happen to interlaced video that’s been compressed and scaled progressive… especially on mixed-framerate projects.

[Noah Kadner] “Either is more than up to the task. Make sure to get great storage to go with it.

    +1

Fast storage should be your focus – as Noah said, either machine will be great if your storage isn’t a bottleneck. I’m getting great throughput with an Areca 8050T2 in RAID 6.

January 27, 2016 at 8:27 pm in reply to: FCPX 10.0.4 – duplicating projects/events question

Yes, this is expected behavior for v10.0.x

Unless there is a truly compelling reason, I would strongly recommend that you update to the latest version. The Library structure changes to something that makes much more sense, it eliminates a truckload of bugs, and adds a boxcar full of features and speed improvements. You’ll want to back everything up before upgrading of course, but the overall improvement in speed and function is worth 10x the effort.

Any reason you’re still on 10.0.4?
