I can do it. Zip up the FC7 project file and I’ll do the XML output, and bring it into a new FCPX library. Having done this before, I will tell you that it’s not an exact science and there will be anomalies that you’ll need to work around.

I don’t need the footage, you can relink when you get the library back.

I suspect the drive with only 11GB free is the issue. FCP writes lots of temp files, and if there isn’t enough room, you can corrupt the entire drive’s filesystem.

As a rule, I never let a drive’s free space get below 10% (and prefer something closer to 25%). So if you’re working on a 2TB drive, keep 200GB free, minimum.

I’d try moving a substantial pile of media from one drive to the other to free up space, then try again.

Trebleet makes a dedicated TB3 case, and one that is ‘compatible’ but limited to USB 3.2 speeds. If you’ve got their 40Gbps model, then there are a couple of other things to look at.

First is the cable – there are a wide variety, and very few of them actually support the full TB4 spec.

Second is the Mac Studio – if you have the Max, the two front ports are actually USB and will be limited to those speeds. The Ultra has TB4 on the front panel, so if that’s your box I’d look much closer at the enclosure and cable.

Actual TB3/4 cables are a bit spendy, but there’s a lot going on in there.

Could be a drive format issue, or permissions. Is it set up the same as G-DRIVE1?

Have a look at both in Disk Utility (Show all devices)- check the drive’s partition map and the volume’s format. Should be GUID map, volume format for a spinning disk should be HFS+ (Journaled), and the format for an SSD should be APFS. If you absolutely must share the drive with a Windows box, you’ll need to use ExFAT, but I’d avoid it otherwise.

Lastly, in Finder, Get Info on both drives. Check that ‘Ignore ownership on this volume’ is checked, or at least you’re the owner and have r/w permission.

I’m getting amazing throughput on an OWC Thunderbay8. It’s loaded with SSDs, set up as RAID4 using SoftRAID on an M1 Mini (Monterey). No issues with the software, been running it hard for a few months now. I was apprehensive at first, but it’s won me over.

If you’re using the HDMI output to connect a monitor with built-in speakers, your Mac will send audio through that output by default. It’s easy enough to switch in System Preferences.

I edit on an iMac at home and an M1 Mini at the office, but both of those machines have separate studio monitors connected – I do a lot of audio work.

I can’t say I’ve ever heard a display with built-in speakers that I’d want to mix on.
