It’s a bigger issue in PAL land, but adding .001 of Gaus is a common treatment. The sharpness setting in the cam is an issue; many people foolishly crank up crispening, which is a serious mistake for any but the most wide shot, IMO. Doing so will really screw up your image, but many folks don’t see this on their less than stellar displays.

Dean used both EX1 and V1 camcorders on a pilot he was shooting, using the Genesis as his primary, and V1/EX1 as secondary cams.
FCP was unable at the time (and still unable to fully import) 24p content in a GOP format or the 1920 that the EX1 offers, and Vegas is used as the conforming tool; Vegas is ridiculously faster than anything else tried, and also maintained integrity of the content. Dean’s team also uses Vegas for other things as well, but I don’t feel it’s my place to speak for Electric Entertainment.Douglas Spotted Eagle

Turn off scene detection an DV Device control in Vegas Capture. That should resolve your problem, and allow you to capture VHS (or any other analog source) directly into Vegas, bypassing the transfer to DV tape.

You can Xfer the footage from the Express card via the Clip Browser (came with your EX1, you’ll want to download the latest update) which converts the mp4 file to an .mxf file. It’s very fast. The .mxf files are then dropped on the Vegas timeline.

“Make Movie” can create several different kinds of output, including MPEG for DVD.
It’s entirely likely that the OP has chosen a template for which his computer is not optimized to play back.

I haven’t experienced this in years, but in previous versions of Vegas, I occasionally saw this, and it seemed like some setting was stuck or something wasn’t connecting. I used to close down Vegas and restart, and the problem would go away. Have you tried this yes? Render out a short segment?

if they’re copy protected DVDs, you won’t be able to get the audio, given the format.
