hi John
there isn’t a direct way to do this as Catdv doesn’t store the names of your network systems
however you could always create a user field called for instance “XSAN” say user 101 you could then use the variable ${U101} to read back the value of the Xsan field from a record and use this to set the Xsan part of your file path.
using user variables its possible to build up quite complex pathing and workflows
i hope this helps you achieve your goals

you can use the Bult edit tool to append the contents of one field to another i suggest in your case you move the contents of your user created ( red ) notes field to the built in ( green) notes field
if you use the append option you will add the red notes to any existing green notes
Use Bulk Edit as a flexible tool to copy one field to another or automatically renumber clips. Select the destination field whose value you want to set, then either type in a fixed value to use or select another property to copy or move to the destination. To use automatic numbering type in a value like “Scene 009″ and the next line will automatically be incremented to “Scene 010″ etc.

hi Eli
you can do a “hot” backup of mysql from the mysql command line we provide sample scripts to do this using batch files / shell scripts for both windows and mac on our website under the Resilience and housekeeping section of our Tutorials Pages along with general guidance on backups see links below
https://www.squarebox.com/catdv-backups/
https://www.squarebox.com/automating-backups-mac-2/
https://www.squarebox.com/automating-backups-win/
Please be aware that there will always be a performance hit while these backups are taking place so its best to schedule them for quite times
For real time redundancy its possible to mirror a mysql DB to another Machine please see our guidance in the online server help manual here
https://www.squarebox.com/server68-manual-advanced-mysql/
It is also possible to Run MySql in a high availability Cluster which while complex and requiring a lot of hardware should be achievable by a competent DataBase / Sysadmin. We can offer advice and assistance with designing and configuring this type of system as part of our professional services offering

hi Kyle
that’s strange when i paste into word formatting is preserved – are you sure your word paste settings areent stripping the formatting as this is a option in word ?
if you can send me a sample local cdv file containing a logged clip to support@squarebox.com i can do some tests at our end to see whats happening.
Its also worth making sure you are on the latest version of catdv first as we’re constantly adding features and tweaking things so if you’re on an older version it may be that we’ve improved the handling of text since your version was released
see https://www.squarebox.com/download-links/ for the latest software

please see the FAQ on the Squarebox website here
