Call me crazy, but it seems that it is related to the autosave function. I booted up one of the “corrupt” projects, immediately turned off autosave and it’s working. I am now copying bins etc. Could this could have something to do with the way it writes the “converted” or old project file into a new format for FCP 6?

Thanks Walter,
Yup, just started out of nowhere. It is getting worse with each day. I’m trying all kinds of things. I can get one of the projects to open, but not for long. Within a few minutes the beach ball appears and it crashes, just sitting there. I wish it was like an Avid where you can go find the individual bins and open into a new project on the desktop level. Is there anyway to find bins like that with FCP? Figure not or I’d have heard about it.
I’ve re-installed everything, literally. Obvious corruption has occured. I waited and asked around and didn’t hear any issues so I made the jump….big mistake. Oh well, if you think of anything…
Thanks again,
Don

This is what happens when you are found to have left LA for the cool waters of Lake Travis and sneak back in to LA without your “EDIT” supercool system.
You could put the monitor farther away from you so the sound travels farther……..or drink more Shiner Bock…………or have Pena come and drive it into submission……
Call me damn it. I’m in your work area. Come over and ask me questions. I’ve had all the problems you can have with Final Cut. It’s a cool system but not very robust I fear. Been on it since Version 2. I’ve got a nice full HD system but I’ve been trying for two days to lay off to HDCam and have resorted to voodoo dancing………and it’s working.

I appear to have solved this by trashing all things FCP……..i.e. prefs, plist, ..anything I could find related EXCEPT the actual install. I then re-converted my sequence and all is fine. Took hours of problem solving and testing.
I am finding that when I go into the log and transfer for P2 import that it is VERY volitle and crashes more than not. Just finished a big Cine Expo presentation with 10 bit uncompressed HD and had nightmare problems and this was at an Apple beta house.
Love the way FCP edits but it sure is not very robust.

So I start a new project and import some of my old footage into it and it’s all out of sync and rubbery. Sure wanted to use this new version for color etc.

Geez, is it me?
Cool to meet you guys in Vegas and for some reason I have the urge to shout!! And Bob, next time more tickets eh..
For the BM/AJA choice guy…….just can’t speak highly enough about the AJA products in general and the Kona 3 in particular. Think Bob was being gentle in suggesting the problem is fixed. Betcha it was and FCP problem………

David,
Good point. Had two assistants, one a moron. I suspect there are several cases where the stills (thousands) had the same and many processed shots via compressor etc could be an issue. I will take this thought and scour the original project and clean up suspected issues. Re: the render files….damn!

I agree with Bob that black busrt is essential to fixing this problem. In fact Bob suggested that I put a black burst into my Kona 3 and it did drastically reduce the pops and crackles though it will raise it’s ugly head now and then. AJA thinks it’s mostly occurs in 24 fps projects when the Kona has to re-clock to 24. There are used BB generators available pretty cheap.
