That fixed it. Back to work. Thanks for your help, John!

I actually have yamb but hadn’t used it. Just for kicks, I tried to drop a few of the iPhone generated quicktime files in it to see what it would do. Seemed like it was going to take days to do whatever it does. Does that sound right to you? Was I doing something wrong? Definitely didn’t see anything that indicated “much faster”
So yamb, if I do it right, will remux to new MP4 files that I can drop on the Vegas 9 timeline and edit without any crashes like the problems I had with the origonal iPhone 4 video files?

Had the same situation and it motivated me to upgrade from Vegas 8 to 9. Vegas 9 takes those files nicely where Vegas 8 won’t recognize them. But seems like you need a system with lots of guts to work with those files.

There was error messages but I didn’t make a note of them. However I’m hoping I solved this problem. I did a “select all” and copied and pasted everything into a new instance of Vegas and gave it a new name. I spent a fair amount of time in the new project and so far, no crashes. Maybe I mucked something up with a nested section on the original version? Don’t know, but it does seem like it is working OK now (fingers crossed).

Thanks, John. Still trying to used to Pro 9, but it’s nice that there isn’t a whole lot to learn different from Pro 8. Also, it’s nice now to be able to just drop those iTunes downloads on a timeline and convert to mp3 or whatever, rather than having to convert via Quicktime like I had to with Pro 8.

Good suggestions, thanks. I downloaded the trial version and yeah, it seems to do the trick. Now I’ll just have to decide if I want to spend $100 to edit iPhone movies this way or go the full upgrade route.
So any ideas on how I can get a Vegas 9 upgrade for a reasonable price?

Hmmmmm. I’ve held off on upgrading to 9 because I really didn’t see a need for it, 8c works great for everthing I need. Plus I’ve read about some of the bugs people have been reporting. I’ve always gone by the “if it ain’t broke…” philosophy. So maybe now it’s “broke”.
I’m way past the discount for upgrading to 9. Any deals on an upgrade? I think maybe I’ll bit the bullet now.

Guess I’ll give that a shot. Hmmmm, choose between Vegas and my new iPhone 4?? That’s a tough one 😉

I think I recall reading this somewhere else. Somehow, Vegas doesn’t like the most recent Quicktime? Anyway, it forces you to download the latest version when you update iTunes in order to accomodate the new iPhone 4.
So, if that actually IS a fix for this issue, would I just go to the Avid site and download that version, and it would over ride the most recent one? Or do I need to uninstall QT and then download the older version?

It’s a .mov file and it reads Format: H.264, 1280 X 720, Millions.
Movie FPS : 29.97. Looks great in Quick Time, but I’m a PC guy and want to view in Windows Media Player and definitely want to be able to edit those iPhone videos I take.
