This is getting pretty frustrating. Vegas keeps crashing and I’ve never had that problem. I’m thinking maybe because my 1 gig external HD that is holding the project files needs degragging? Could that cause Vegas to crash? Don’t know of anything different in my system that could that could be doing it.

I don’t believe a fragmented hard drive can cause a crash. It will only cause slow file access. Are you getting any error when it crashes or does it just go away? What are the errors if any?

Defragging is unlikely to cause crashes. It usually just slows your machine to a state like molasses in winter. IF your hard drive is under 10% capacity left (ie. >900 GB of a Terabyte, for example) you *could* get a crash. A general rule of thumb is not to fill your hard drive! Some software can protect you from doing that, but if you are under 10%, take action! Drives are cheap!

That said, we need to better understand your crashes. What format, what is the error message, etc.

Once we get that info, we have a better idea of where you might start troubleshooting.

There was error messages but I didn’t make a note of them. However I’m hoping I solved this problem. I did a “select all” and copied and pasted everything into a new instance of Vegas and gave it a new name. I spent a fair amount of time in the new project and so far, no crashes. Maybe I mucked something up with a nested section on the original version? Don’t know, but it does seem like it is working OK now (fingers crossed).

That was a good work-around. Sometimes a project just gets corrupt for whatever reason.
