I just reconfigured my NTSC EX1R for shooting in PAL. I changed to HQ 1080 25p and set the shutter speed to 1/50 sec. by navigating to the shutter speed using the direct menu right on the LCD display. Make sure your physical shutter speed switch under the lens is set to “on”. Anyway, I had no problem setting the shutter speed to 1/50th sec. on my camera (minimum shutter speed for PAL 25p). Your EX1 will be exactly the same procedure.

Gary, the finished “look” of 24p and 25P doesn’t have the same amount of frame judder as it does when you’re shooting. You need to go through the whole process from acquisition to screen before you make your final decision. We have a client from a large organization that demands 24p for television and web and it looks just fine.

Not sure but perhaps to save battery power with a dimmer display in darker shooting situations. I know that most users like to have the LCD as bright as the resulting footage will be so they can more accurately judge brightness levels.

No, not the LCD settings in the menu (is there a setting?) but the physical push switches underneath the top handle on the camera body. There are 2 switches for the LCD brightness – plus and minus.
Other than pulling the memory battery if it’s still not getting brighter then send the camera in for warranty. You’re right, though. Having two cameras under repair for the same thing is quite the coincidence.

Now don’t beat up on me because I’m just trying to help and this first question is sort of a no brainer:
- Did you play with the “LCD Bright” settings below the top handle on the EX1R?
- Try the “Reset All” in the main menu.
- Try pulling the main battery and the memory battery and let the camera “rest” for a few min.

Make sure that the “show all” box is checked in Easy Setups or go to the menu Sequence>Settings>General and click on Compressor. See if the XDCAM HD presets are there.

Yes, I saw the C.A. around the white flowers as well. Try turning on the wide conversion setting in the EX menu and see if that makes a difference. It’s what’s recommended one does if using the Sony wide angle lens converter. It helps to minimize C.A.

It could very well be FCP. When the program starts acting up the first thing for trouble shooting is to trash the FCP preference files. After that little task is complete try playing back what you’ve already captured. If the audio is still out then it was probably captured that way. Your next step would be to capture a small portion of your tape that was originally out of sync and see if the sync is now OK.

Then your statement above tells me that there’s something else going on here other than restoring the default settings. Remember when you first fired up your new camera? The picture didn’t look anything like it does now, does it? Pull the main battery and the memory battery and let the camera sit for a few minutes. Then put all the batteries back and start the camera. See what happens then.
