I also responded again to your post from yesterday, but Jason’s suggestion about exporting the QT self contained .mov and then importing into a new timline is an exellent one. I should have thought of that one as well.

Another thing you can try is to make sure the directory on your scratch disc is in good shape by running Disk Warrior on that drive. It may be that parts of the directory have become corrupted. It could also be that your scratch disc is getting full and your transfer rates are down with certain sequences. Since you didn’t divulge a whole lot of info on your setup I’m just guessing here. I’m sure you also know to keep your audio and video files together in the same folder. Did you try copying and pasting your troublesome sequences into new ones in case some of the sequence files have become corrupted?

The GL2 colour balance seems to be inclined more to the reds at the best of times, at least on mine, and especially when the picture has underexposed areas. You’ll notice indoors when you underexpose that peoples’ faces get a lot redder than they actually are, even with a manual white balance. What I did is to go into the custom preset menu and change the colour gain 3 ticks to the left of centre, then change the colour phase 2 ticks into the greens (left) from centre. Try that and see what your picture looks like. The reds should look more ‘normal’ now after a man. white balance. Curiously enough, if you also increase the sharpness level by one increment that also seems to help create a more ‘normal’ looking colour balance.
Once you’re done make sure you activate the custom preset button. You’ll see the “CP” in the viewfinder when activated. Hope this helps.

Although it’s never happened to me, when you have troubles printing back to tape you can try mixing down your sequence audio first. The general feeling in the FCP forum is that this procedure will solve a lot of the problems associated with printing to tape. I’m assuming that it takes less processing power if you only have 2 audio tracks intead of multiple ones.
Within FCP go to: sequence/render only/mixdown. This will create an invisible audio file for your transfer to tape. The original audio tracks are not changed in any way, but if you make any audio changes after using the mixdown command the file will be automatically deleted and you’ll have to do it all over again.
This solution won’t hurt or change anything in your sequence and it may indeed solve your pixilation problems.

Brian,
I would assume that Sony Mini DV tapes would be compatible with their own decks. Sounds like it may be a tracking problem on that one Sony tape. Try recording some test footage on another Sony tape and go through the workpath process again and see if the problems go away or are duplicated. In the meantime, since you stated the sony tape will play back fine with the XL2 you can use your camera as a deck and get your footage on to your computer via firewire OR put a new tape in the DSR-11 and hook the XL2 to that for the transfer.

Either it’s a corrupt sequence or project file, or the FCP preference files are corrupt. That’s what it sounds like to me, anyway. I would try trashing the preference files first though. Can’t hurt and might just be the fix you’re looking for.

If you’ve changed nothing else other than Quicktime, then it must be the culprit in this case. I’d go back to version 6 and try your clips again.
And don’t let your husband near your laptop again without supervision.

Try the audio mixdown command in the render menu and then play it again……Sam. What this does is to consolidate all your audio tracks into two so there will be less processing power needed to play the timeline. The mixdown creates an invisible file and will not change/add any tracks to your timeline. However, should you make any audio changes after using the mixdown command the file will be automatically deleted and you’ll have to do it again.
