Try posting this in the Final Cut Pro Forum. You’ll get a quicker response and from more people who are quite knowledgable about Apple’s IAC and the workflow you’re considering. It works juts like the old days. You order your upgrade online or by phone. They ask you for the serial number of your current Final Cut Studio. If that checks out then you send them $499.00 USD and they send you Final Cut Studio 2.

This a classic symptom of what happens when the OS and/or QT is upgraded and you can’t get audio/video to show up in FCP afterwards but you can in iMovie. I’m not saying that you didn’t follow the instructions from the Apple Knowledge Base article in my first post but perhaps you could do the QT deletions again and make sure you’ve gotten all of them.

Do you know about the free app called FCP Rescue that everyone uses for this purpose? You’ve probably done all this already but I’ve learned to to take nothing for granted when problem solving.

Larry, are you able to connect a video camera via firewire and see if you can capture that way instead of using the deck? At this point it starts to become a process of elimination.

The short answer would be no. At least not with the limited picture adjustments of the XL1S. There’s no magic setting in that camera’s menu that would allow you to do a simple cine-style adjustment. Although you didn’t specify which Panasonic camera you were shown, if it was something like the DVX100B, that camera was developed with a lot of picture settings such as ‘cine-gamma’ to make the video appear more ‘film-like’ in addition to the Panny’s progressive scanning which helps add to the film-style illusion. The XL1S does not have progressive scan imaging.
All is not lost, however. To emulate the same look you need to bring the XL1S video footage into a good NLE with film-like plugins and experiment with them until you find the look you’re after. With a good set of NLE filters you can probably get very close.

This is a job for the Media Manager. You can select all your media in the browser window of your completed project then go to the Media Manager and tell it to create a new project and copy all your referenced media to your new RAID. The new project will be an exact copy of the old project and will ONLY reference the copied media on the new RAID. After this little job is done you will still have your old project that references the same media spread across your other drives. Check the new project completely to make sure everything is good to go and then do whatever you want with the old project and its associated media.
