  • How does the Upgrade work???

Posted by Ron James on April 21, 2007 at 3:06 am

Sorry if I’m just having a blank moment, but…

How does this upgrade work? I don’t see anything about sending in my discs again. So does the upgrade just look for my last install?

Can’t wait to get this in my hands.

    Thanks!

It works juts like the old days. You order your upgrade online or by phone. They ask you for the serial number of your current Final Cut Studio. If that checks out then you send them $499.00 USD and they send you Final Cut Studio 2.

Actually I think that it will just asks for the old SN and possibly the old disc when you go to install. I know people who have already pre-ordered and it did not ask for the SN at the time of the order.

Nobody can really say because it hasn’t even shipped yet.

If you own either the original Production Suite and Final Cut Studio, your upgrade price is $499.

If you own any version of FCP, the upgrade price is $699.

When you install F C Studio 2, you will be asked to enter your previous serial number.

It is clearly stated on Apple’s website!

I need read the upgrade requirements!

    Buy New $1299

Upgrade from Final Cut Studio* $499

Upgrade from Final Cut Pro or Production Suite* $699

    * The upgrade version requires a valid serial number from a commercial version of Final Cut Studio, Production Suite, or Final Cut Pro 1, 2, 3, or 4. Academic and not-for-resale versions are not eligible for this upgrade.

or, in May, you walk in to an Applestore, or other shop selling Apple products, you purchase the FCS2 Upgrade box for 499, take it home and install from the enclosed FCS2 Upgrade discs using both the enclosed upgrade serial number and your previous FCS1 serial number

That’s what I figured. It just looks at your old pref file, probably.

    Thanks!

Well, no actually when you get your new FCS2 box and insert the first install disc you’ll be prompted to type in the serial number for FCS2. Once that’s done, if your new FCS2 is an upgrade from FCS1 then you’ll be prompted to type your FCS1 serial number before the install process can begin. If you’ve bought a brand new FCS2 and not an upgrade then you’ll just be prompted once for the new serial number.

    Hope that’s not too confusing.

It’s not going to ask for the old serial number if you already have FCS 1 on the system.

The truth is NOBODY can say for sure, because it isn’t out yet Apple may have changed something, it may want the old SN it may ask to have the old disc inserted for a moment, it may just look for a already installed copy of the old version, it may even not ask or look for anything,

Until it is actually available it is all speculation, because it could have easily been changed since the last upgrade.

Hmmm… I wonder if you can buy FCP1.0 off ebay for very cheap then upgrade to 6.0 for $699?

    ;o)
