I’m leaving in a few minutes to go get the camera. When I get back I’ll charge up a battery and do the test. Luckily, I live about 15 minutes away from the Sony national repair facility, so if there’s any problems……..
This is one of the main reasons I chose to buy another Sony camera in the first place. Sony repair, at least here, is very fast. OTOH, Canon, at least here, takes at least a month and a half to get a repair done. Crazy.

“The short answer is no. Projects opened and saved in v.6 can’t be opened in v.5.
But you can export an XML file of your version of the project, include that on the client’s hard drive and she will be able to open that in FCP 5. It’s my understanding that most, if not all of your changes will be mirrored in the XML file. Of course, things that won’t translate are filters etc, that are specific to version 6 won’t transfer over to FCP 5.

Export the last frame as a picture using the Quicktime Conversion export function. Import the picture back into FCP and replace the video frame with it. You can then make the picture as long, time-wise, as you want.
At least that’s one way to do it.

Criag, I’m suprised you don’t have yours yet since you ordered long before I did. Mine came in on Wed. but I’m not picking it up until this morning (Pacific). I’ll ask my broadcast supplier guy if he’s heard anything else other than the vignetting issue. Also, I ordered the Sony wide angle adapter at the same time but it’s on back order, at least here.

Just to add to Steve’s post, it would seeem that not all standard HDV codecs are created equal, either. I remember Shane Ross commenting that he tested an XL-H1 a while back and couldn’t make it misfire even when he tried, using fast pans, etc. That in itself is quite remarkable. Other people using other types of HDV cameras presumably don’t fare as well. So it comes down to ‘trying before buying’ being pretty important.
I expect that the new high end XDCAM HD camera that shoots up to 50mps @ 4:2:2 DIRECTLY to XDCAM disc will be something to behold.
