You can create then save an XML file of the whole project in FCP 6 and then import the XML file into FCP 5.1.4. What won’t be included in the XML export file are any codecs or filters that are unique to FCP 6. That should do it for you.

Well there’s shutter angle and then there’s shutter speed settings. The generally accepted shutter angle for everyday video will be 180 degrees, which is the default setting on the EX. The shutter speed will be determined by the frame rate, so a speed of 60 if you’re shooting 30 FPS or 48 if you’re going with 24 FPS. To get a more stroby, “Private Ryan” look you start increasing the shutter speed. If it was me I’d start by increasing it by two fold and check the result. The shutter speed rule also applies to interlaced as well as progressive.

It’s my understanding that by turning the shutter off the EX will automatically double the shutter speed with regard to frame rate. Not too sure about that though. My shutter button is always off and I’m always shooting 1080p 30.

I can’t speak to that because I actually haven’t shot anything using interlaced since I bought the camera. I do know that it loses a stop or two of sensitivity when shooting 720p 30 and it’s also set to 60 FPS overcrank for the slow-mo effect.

I don’t use my Cavision matte box on a day to day basis but it does seem to hold up well enough. It’s basically just a high impact plastic piece with steel thread inserts for the various fittings. The support rods are carbon fiber and the base is aluminum. It’s no Chrosziel, mind you, but it serves my needs. Just be aware that I’m describing the matte box I bought for an XL2 but the EX1 model will most likely be of similar construction.

Do think the Tiffen or other brands would work also?”Well, like I said, the stock lens hood fits over the Tamron UV filter just fine and Craig says his B&W Clear Glass filter also fits. I can’t speak to other brands other than to say that some filters are made thicker and won’t fit. When ordering from any supplier just make sure they know what you’re going to use it on.

Craig Seeman says he bought the B&W Clear Glass Protector filter and has also heard that the Hoya Pro1 Digital Clear also fits. There’s nothing on my Tamron filter or on the filter box that has a part number other than stating that it’s 77mm UV. When I ordered my EX I just asked my broadcast supplier to get me something and the Tamron filter is what they came up with.

Except if you’ve purchased the 77mm Tamron UV/protector filter, which does fit with the stock EX lens hood.

The first line in the format section will tell you what the audio encoder is, but yes, the 16 bit Integer is part of it and refers to the audio bit rate. But there should be something before that describes what the actual audio decoder is. Just copy everything in your get info window and then paste it into a post here so I can read what you’re dealing with.
DId you try the recommendations of the other poster (David) yet?
What I’m trying to determine is if the audio settings of the QT you’re trying to import into FCP match the sequence settings. The audio decoder for your QT movie might not even match what FCP has, which might be the reason you’re having sync issues.

The QT movie info window will also tell you what compressor was used on the audio. It’s separate from the video codec but the information will still be listed under “Format” in the get info window.

What is the codec used in your QT movies? What audio compressor is used? While your QT movie is playing hit Apple-I to find this out.
