July 28, 2006 at 10:23 pm in reply to: slightly OT – do I have to go through “juicer” when using Digital Juice – jumpbacks? This applies to the sound effects library, not the jumpbacks. The sound effects library has proxy files & high rez 96K 24 bit files. The juicer lets you search through the audio files & convert to 44 or 48K.

July 28, 2006 at 9:08 pm in reply to: Interesting Blog comparing FCP to Avid (from a feature film editor who cuts primarily long form)FCP/Avid stability
In the last 4 years I’ve had a Symphony PC, Adrenaline PC (still do) & 3 FCP Macs. The Macs need to be restarted more often, but it’s usually just a restart, nothing else. When the Avids crash, they crash hard. If my FCP is down I can fix it myself. If you have an Avid, you need their Assurance plan. Half of all my problems needed a call to tech support. $2500/yr for Adrenaline & $3500/ for Symphony. You don’t want a year of support, no problem. You can always pay per incident…$500 charge to your credit card!
My Symphony was as solid as my FCPs. My Adrenaline is less stable than the FCPs.

Wayne,
Are you saying that even though one format is 35mbs & the other is 100 mbs that their both similar quality? The shooters here pushing for XDCAM HD, before I side with them I want to know what I’m getting into.Everything here is SDI & all the Macs have a Kona cards. We do have tons of legacy DVC Pro 50.

I have many files that were created in AE with the Avid codec. One of them is in my FCP timeline that I’m using today. Download the Avid codec, install it on the Mac & inport it into FCP.
See my other post for the link.

The above statement applies to you situation, uncompressed. I thought in DV land the Adrenaline captured in QTs? Not sure though, never worked in DV rez. My Adrenaline is in pieces right now and can’t check that out…I’m too busy cutting in FCP!

Avid Quicktimes will work on in FCP, Avid omfs will not. If you exported a QT your OK, but you can’t just grab the files from the OMFI folder.
Install the Avid codec & all QT will play. https://www.avid.com/onlineSupport/browse.asp?productID=0&topicID=404&browse=

I’ll check it out.
Thanks!

You are correct, it is the card. Before the DSR 45 problem, I lost AES out. While I was trying to figure out the DSR 45 problem, I lost AES in & analog I/O. I called Aja & they sent me a new card. I installed it today & all the problems are fixed. What if all customer service was as good as Aja? Maybe Aja could get into medical billing, that industry can use some help!
