October 21, 2005 at 10:27 pm in reply to: think i found problem with DV communication failure and DSR 30 – PLS READ!why doesn’t the sony 30 have a time out on PAUSE ??
i capture on a panasonic 2000 deck , canon GL1 camera, canon elura camera and they time out of pause using Vegas ..
so perhaps some %%% of mucked heads rest with sony for letting their product stay in pause for XXXX days .. if i remember correctly the sony drs 40 times out of pause mode so perhaps it sony consumer products that don’t time out ?? -
if your Vegas project is DV NTSC 720×480 … your PI might default to 720×486 ? or 640×480 ??

for talking heads i use a average bit rate of 2,400,000 (max 2,800,000) to fit 4 hrs on a DVD .. looks much better then VHS .. i have found that using a constant bit rate of 2,000,000 may not play on all desktop DVD players …
you could just drop 4-5 hrs into DVDA then use optomize to see what it comes up for a bit rate …
also if you have a dula layer DVD burner you can double hrs …

in the US today i think the only way you are going to view HD on a HD TV is playing it back thru your sony camera connected to the HD TV until HD DVD rolls out in USA which is about to happen

you could just drop HDV clips in TL and render out using cineform codec = should be no loss …clips will be larger .. then edit the cineform clips or you could render out as DV.avi (exact copy of clip in TL and same name ) then edit the DV clips ..when your edit is locked you then hide the dv.avi’s and lead Vegas to the HD files ..

is it possible you didn’t register the mpeg2 codec ?
update your V4d build 205 to V4e build 239 …then try rendering the mpeg2 ..
-
do a 3 min render test ..
use you setting , use the standard mpeg2 DVDA ntsc video stream template , and a 3rd one at a constant 6,000,000 bit rate..
after the 3 mpegs are rendered drop them in Vegas TL to see which is cleaner ..

are you burning to a dual layer DVD disc??
you must be because you cannot fit 79min onto a single layer disc with the bit rate you are using .. IMO if it is fitting on a single layer then DVDA or whatever DVD software you are using is re-rendering the mpeg2 to fit it on a single layer = noisy, soft image, faded colors …

does it hang when while opening the media manager library?
you might try uninstalling V6 , sony media manager , and SQL sony desktop ?
there are 3 pieces …then go to windows update ( use CUSTOM not express) and make sure you have the NET 1.1 service pack , and NET 1.1 security updates – if windows update doesn’t show em then you have em …
now reintsall V6c
i had some problems with a few V6 versions on one computer out of 6 … the current V6c is working on it .. i did have to completely uninstall all 3 parts of earlier version …
