Go to the browser window (where the clips which you are using in the timeline are stored) and highlight each clip individually. Then Control-Click on the clip to invoke the contextual menu and select “Item Properties”. This will allow you to review the settings for the clip you highlighted. Check to see that “Anamorphic” is selected. If it is not, check it.
Next, do the same thing with your master sequence. Highlight your master sequence in the Browser Window. Control-click on it to invoke the contextual menu and select “Item Properties”. Check to see that “Anamorphic” is selected. If it is not, check it.
If your sequence output is all convoluted and nothing seems to work, you can always try copying the clips (make sure you selected “Anamorphic” for each clip) in the sequence, creating a new “Anamorphic” sequence and then pasting those clips into that new Anamorphic sequence.
Please do let us know how you make out, ok?

It should be noted that the Sony HDR-HC3 does not offer any Mic input jack either.

In a situation where you are recording in a big chamber with lots of reverb – use lavalier mics with CARDIOID heads, not omni-directional heads. By using a cardioid lav mic, you’ll pick up just the sound of the person’s voice and much less room tone than an omni lav will.
For rock bottom pricing in a lav system while still maintaining some measure of performance, the Azden systems have received favorable reviews. I wouldn’t use anything less than an Azden… You’d most likely get noticeably better reception from an Audio Technica system. I personally own a couple of the Sennhesier EW-series lav mics and have had great success with them. I also often times use Lectrosonics, which I always am happy with.

Hello John,
You were correct. The new XH camcorders do NOT offer HDMI outputs.

FYI, the new Canon HV10 consumer HDV camcorder will playback 24F footage originally captured with an XL H1 or XH A1/ G1 camcorder. The HV10 cannot record 24F footage, however it can playback 24F footage via FireWire.
Hope this helps,

To clarify, Console version 1.01 should now soon be available to coincide with the release of the new Canon XH A1 and XH G1 camcorders.
In a nutshell, Console version 1.01 adds functionality and support for the new XH A1 and XH G1 camcorders as follows:
+36db gain control
+ 1.25/ -1.25 AE gain
WB preset shift
Color correction (a new in-camera color correction mode offered in the new XH camcorders)
Skin detail (XL H1, XL2 not supported)
Sky detail (new XH feature)– don

Hello John,
Nice to hear from you.
You are correct in that Canon’s Console software is similiar to the other products you mention. However, Console is designed specifically for Canon’s XL2, XLH1 and the new XH A1/ G1 cameras to allow extensive customization of the camera’s internal image preset control per your needs. It’s a great way to gain exclusive control over the entire image during a shoot – not to mention you also have the ability to record your video directly to your PC via the FireWire connection.
Console also allows you to store your customized image presets and load them back into your XL or XH camera(s) whenever you need to. This is a very handy tool for matching multiple XL or XH cameras together.
Think of Console as a robust software-based external Camera Control Unit (CCU) with many of the controls you would expect to find on a professional broadcast external CCU that also offers custom presets and direct to PC recording via FireWire.
Please do keep in touch and do let us know if you have any other questions or comments.
Thank you John,

FCP v5.1 does not yet natively support the XL H1 in 24F Mode…This is all changing rapidly because just this week during the IBC Expo in Amsterdam, Apple annouced that FCP version 5.1.2 is coming soon with native 24F support. FCP v5.1.2 will fully support capture and device control (with TimeCode), 24F editing and 24F output over firewire to the XL H1 (in addition to the current native support of 60i Mode).
Release date will most likely be October. This will most likely be a free update – only available to FCP5.1 owners. If v5.1 is installed on your Mac, you’ll simply run the software update app from the Apple menu to automatically update FCP 5.1 (or 5.1.1) to 5.1.2. This, of course, when the update is officially released – sometime shortly – in October.
Expect to see more news made available shortly from Canon and Apple.
