24f capture on MAC via HD-SDI from XLH1?
Hello all,
A few months ago we bought 6 XLH1 cameras and 6 G5s with Decklink HD cards and internal RAIDs with the plan of doing multi-camera shoots straight to disk (using DVCPRO HD as a codec). This all works great, BUT there is STILL no workflow for using 24f which we’d REALLY LIKE TO DO. 🙂 Is there ANY way to get a 24fps file captured via HD-SDI on a Mac from the XLH1? Will there ever be? Owning 6 of these cameras I think I deserve a straight answer. There seems to be an option for PC, but I’m a Mac guy, and I’ve already invested in these G5s. Any help much appreciated. 🙂

I know Apple has promised 24F support in Final Cut but it has not been delivered yet. (Last rumor was August but you know I would guess whenever the next Canon show is. Last year it was early Sept I think) I know this workflow has been discussed on Other sites so you may want to check them out. It was not straightforward but this site doesn’t have much info about this directlyDaniel Epstein

FCP v5.1 does not yet natively support the XL H1 in 24F Mode…This is all changing rapidly because just this week during the IBC Expo in Amsterdam, Apple annouced that FCP version 5.1.2 is coming soon with native 24F support. FCP v5.1.2 will fully support capture and device control (with TimeCode), 24F editing and 24F output over firewire to the XL H1 (in addition to the current native support of 60i Mode).
Release date will most likely be October. This will most likely be a free update – only available to FCP5.1 owners. If v5.1 is installed on your Mac, you’ll simply run the software update app from the Apple menu to automatically update FCP 5.1 (or 5.1.1) to 5.1.2. This, of course, when the update is officially released – sometime shortly – in October.
Expect to see more news made available shortly from Canon and Apple.
