Well, thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I’ll find some workaround for now.

Bleh, Flame… Shlame. Actually I am a Flame Artist trying to make it a go on the cheaper / more flexible systems.

    Have you tried…

    1. Import 29.97 Edl.
    2. Capture 29.97 Footage.
    3. Reverse Telecine.
    4. Convert 29.97 Edl to 23.976.
    5. Import 23.976 Edl.
    6. Reconnect 23.976 clips to Reverse Telecined clips…. if it’s based on first frame… shouldn’t that first frame line up?

Well…. In the worst case scenario this won’t be as big of an issue once HD is the norm. 🙂

I can not tell you how disappointed I am!

I work with offline material done in 29.97. I have to online that material and make it 23.97 for visual effects work, graphics, and film output? There’s got to be a better way…. does there?

  • Our shop just went with the MetaSAN solution. Even though we are more of an effects shop than an editing facility, the system has proven quite capable. There were some initial hiccups but Tiger and the dealer were great about ironing them out. The dealer we used was Datrox out of Montreal.

Keep in mind, we did spend quite a bit more than $30k.

  • The modify frame rate feature does sound useful…. but I don’t think it solves my issue. You see, I have to match my online precisely to the 29.97 edit. (Understanding about a frame off here and there)

If I use your method, won’t that mean that my scenes play back faster and show more of each shot?

  • Besides the point that Sean made, I am doing motion graphics and effects. My system, works, but is frustrating because FCP should recognize all the missing clips in that folders (filenames and timecodes match)… Instead, it relinks one and stops the process. I have to go through the relink process once per cut.

Everything looks fine except for those mini particles… is there an aliasing / sampling option somewhere???

So does anyone know of any tricks to max out the RAM preview? I’m working in 2k so even with loads of ram I can only playback 5 seconds worth.

  • Do you ever find that when you punch in a number it doesn’t stay the same. For example, I just did this.

I wanted to change the in-point from 00:01:03:00 to 00:08:03:00.

When I punch it in, I get 00:08:03:16. No matter what I do, I can’t get it to set the exact inpoint I Want.

    Have you seen this?

  • Dual 2 ghz G5

    2.5 gigs Ram

256mg Graphics Card…. I forget which one but I upgraded in order for it to work well with Motion.
