As usual there is no one size fits all and there are no magic buttons.
However, if you know for sure that you image indeed contained pure black and pure white (mathematically) then sure, go ahead.
Very often, you will have information in the color channels that the camera, or some other link in your chain, interpreted to be blacker than black and some that significantly whiter than white. If you color balance based on those extreme values in one or more of your color channels, then some other part of the tonal range of your image will become very unbalanced.
I would say that by the number approach has its plays but might not be valid in every situation.
Let’s say you have a sunset scene. If you were to balance shadows and highlights to be agsolutely neutral all the way through you would have lost the impression of the scene, as it would loose warmness of the original light.

Lut options are grayed out id one chooses to “hide UI overlays to optimize playback” in settings. When that option is selected LUT is affecting the scopes. It would be nice if it didn’t

Ok. Open all of the clips in resolve and make sure they all have unique timecode. Note the timecode on the couple of the clips. Do so in the media tab. Open the same clips in your premiere pro project and verify that they have the same beginning and ending timecode as visible in resolve. Make sure that your clips have proper file extension. Also try first opening files in resolve and then importing the XML but keep import media unchecked in the XML import dialogue.

Are you able to actually open the clips in resolve regardless of XML?

  • Spoke to soon.
There seem to be a crash when adjusting values with a control panel (tangent wave) but not when adjusting in UI. Happens intermittently. Says something about not being able to save the project right before the crash (auto save is not on when crash happens)

  • Had a similar issue. Update to 10.2 seemed to fix this issue for me.
