    Thanks Kevin

Exactly this is what I was thinking, too.
Perhaps it was shot in 50i and then combined to a 25p image when captured in Premiere?
This would mean to re-capture it with 50i upper field and not with 25p as before.

When I try to interpret it as interlaced (with preserved edges on) it just deletes every second line, doesn’t matter if I interpret it as upper or lower field.

    Hi Dave,

thank you very much for your quick answer. So there’s hope…
Can I convert the MPEGs directly in After Effects, lets say as a proxy, or do I need to do it before importing it into AE?

  • I don’t have the right answer for you but here are some of my work-arounds when working with quicktime files and getting errors:

Quicktimes can cause problems when accessed more then once at a time. So make sure its not open somewhere else or accessed by another machine.

Also try to purge the cache by choosing Edit -> Purge -> All
This helps me sometimes when a layer refuses to show at 100% but shows at lower resolutions.

If you cant solve the problem create a proxy of the this particualr .mov file (for example a PNG-Sequence) and render it with Proxies enabled.

    Hi Allison,

you can try to pre-compose the dollar texture by choosing Layer -> Pre-Compose, choose move all attributes into the new composition and check the “Open New Composition”. Then squeeze the texture by altering the height of it. Just click it and press S to reveal the scale properties, disable constrain proportions and play with the height value until it looks good in the particle composition. You’ll probably need to switch between the 2 comps for re-adjusting or you just create a 2nd viewer (ALT+SHIFt+N).

    sorry for my bad english

    Cheers

Well, actually the Point of Interest ist the “point” where the camera looks at. Imagine you hold a camera in your hands and you want to shoot an object on your table. The logical thing is that you have to point your camera to the object. So the point of interest would be the place (coordinates) the object is located in 3D space.

To visualize it better watch this tutorial by Andrew Kramer: https://library.creativecow.net/articles/kramer_andrew/3dcompositing/3dcompositing.html

You can bind the POI to the camera position using expressions but first try to understand what it actually is.

Is it just one plasma which is turned 90°?
    What’s the resolution of it? 1920*1080 (Full-HD)?

If so, just start a new comp with dimensions of 1080*1920 and make your animations.
Then place the finished comp into a standard Full-HD composition with 1920*1080 Pixel and rotate it 90° so it fits.

I don’t know what you got but you could use BlueRays which are Full-HD or just connect the plasma to a pc/mac which is playing the rendered project. For example as a Quicktime-File (Animation-Codec, but others are possible, too).

A professional setup (like in exhibitions for example) use special players which can read PNG- or TIFF-Sequences but for your task you don’t really need it.

If I understood you right all you have to do is pre-compose your fractal noise layer by choosing Layer -> Pre-Compose and move all attributes into the new composition.

But as I said I’m not sure what you want to do. What do you want to accomplish exactly?

An AE camera has two “handles” to control it. The position, which you used, and the point of interest (the point on which the camera is looking at). By tracking the camera on the XY-axis you change the point of interest also. (You also do it with the Track-Z-tool but you don’T see it since it’s only moving in the z-axis.)
Did you make sure to keyframe the Point Of Interest as well as the Position in the camera?
By selecting the camera and hitting A on your keyboard you can set the Point of Interest and also turn on the keyframing.
    Then try again.

March 19, 2009 at 3:06 am in reply to: How do i export a video in a AVI format?

Well AVI is a container, which means you can put in data which has been compressed on several ways.
When you want un uncompressed avi then choose lossless as your output module, while choosing best settings as your render settings. You do this by pressing the small drop down arrow.

If you want a DV avi instead use Microsoft DV PAL/NTSC (what you need) as your output module. But as you said, the quality is baaaaah…:)

    Cheers
