How do i export a video in a AVI format?

Well AVI is a container, which means you can put in data which has been compressed on several ways.
When you want un uncompressed avi then choose lossless as your output module, while choosing best settings as your render settings. You do this by pressing the small drop down arrow.

If you want a DV avi instead use Microsoft DV PAL/NTSC (what you need) as your output module. But as you said, the quality is baaaaah…:)

actually you won’t be able to use the render queue, you’ll need to open your comp, then use file>export>avi… there you’ll be able to choose your compression and color depth (if you want to include an alpha channel, choose millions+ if the codec allows one).

and as dino says, if you choose ‘none’ for the compressor, you won’t be losing any quality while the cinepak, dv or dvcpro options will have some loss.

Hello,
I’ve have an additional problem when exporting an AE comp in uncompressed (millions of colors+) avi format. I always get a white outline around my images. This happens even if I import a sequence of png’s or tiff’s with transparent backgrounds. I can export the same image sequences from Photoshop in an uncompressed avi format with excellent results including the background transparency. I also have
this problem when I use Keylight on green screen footage. I noticed that Photoshop gives you Alpha channel options at export and AE doesn’t. I’m concerned that I may simply have some variable set incorrectly.
