Thanks Noah! Your help is much appreciated. I am definitely going to start using DVDSP from now on!

The source was a DVD of an event that I ripped off individual chapters for a client. I used handbrake to rip them into mp4’s. I then used quick time to save as .mov files. For some reason they wont import into FCP?
They are NTSC and I’m not changing that. And they are not HD.
Any help would be much appreciated.

June 18, 2009 at 9:21 pm in reply to: Shooting a scene with minimal audio/mics.. pls read! Thanks for your reply Maurice. The shoot is tonight and the shotgun mic i purchased is not compatible with the HVX. And it’s too late to get another one.
So I think I will try to shot on both audio channels as you said. Do you think a handheld mic could pick up the dialogue if placed close enough?

Steve thanks for your time/reply. I’m so confused. I dont understand why on my timeline in FCP my footage looks like: what looks like 16:9
https://uploadpic.org/showpic-2750/picture_1.png
and then when i export quick time (current settings) i get this: what looks like 4:3
https://uploadpic.org/showpic-2753/picture_2.png
i dont understand it. all i want is to export as 16:9 and have it look great just as it was shot.
Thanks again

Hey David,
Thanks again for your help. I’ve been gone but I am back and working on this interview again. So I recaptured using the standard DV NTSC anamorphic capture settings as you suggested but my footage is still getting lines through it during jerky movements by the subject.
I would love to remedy this or at least try to make it look better.
I have uploaded a sample on vimeo. https://vimeo.com/2477976 (should be able to view in a couple minutes.)
Cheers,

Thanks David,
Ok I just did what you told me and I’m still getting those lines. I guess I captured the footage wrong? How do I properly capture?
The way I originally did it was by going to the “Easy Setup” window and putting it in:
Format: NTSC
Rate: 23.98
Use: DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) -

November 19, 2008 at 8:29 pm in reply to: Why does my footage look so poor in FCP BUT NOT AE?Haha! Thanks my niece! Her face is way cuter than my mug!
Thanks for your helpful replies everyone. Okay so setting the canvas window to 100% in FCP solved that! Thanks David. Also on quicktime checking the “high quality box” fixed my problem with QT. The only thing that was strange was that the “conform aperture to, and select “clean”, was already checked and selected.
How can I tell if the footage is interlaced or progressive? Rafael where can I set that fields increment in AE? Is there a way to check/analyze the footage in FCP? I’m guessing it is interlaced since I’m getting window blinds effects when my subject’s hands moves around when he’s speaking.
Sincere thanks to everyone who has taken their time to respond!
Cheers!
