You’re copying/pasting the ‘trimmed’ clip in the PPro timeline into After Effects? You’re opening the PPro .proj in After Effects? I’ve using both those methods with my set up and I get trimmed clips into the After Effects timeline just fine.
(You mustn’t copy from the PPro Project window. And you have to double click and open the Comp in After Effects if you go down the open-the-PPro.proj-in After-Effects route. Obviously.)
Strange.

I’m not sure if I understand your problem correctly – but have you tried right-click on the item in the project window and click ‘Interpret footage’. If you have a widescreen clip, click ‘conform to’ and select the correct widescreen option (1.422 for PAL etc).
Hope that helps.

Interesting… sounds like it could be a ‘video black’ vs ‘graphics’ black problem. Video black should be 16 (white 235) and graphics is 0 (white is 255). Other packages have an option for how to treat their imports, I don’t know if Premiere has this?
Good luck with it though.

Well… on a Beta SP machine you have a switch so you can opt to have the input of Ch 3 & 4 taken from the Ch 1 & 2 inputs. On the DigiBeta the same thing is in the menu 804. You can either have Ch 3 and/ or Ch4 take their inputs from the Ch 1 and 2 inputs, or take their input from the front panel 3 & 4 switches (analogue/SIF/AES).
‘That’s pants’ means ‘I’m not very impressed to find this feature missing’! :). If I wanted something different on 3 & 4, I’d be stuck. I feel sure there must be a way to get all four channels to tape? I started playing with 5.1 but didn’t get anywhere!
Thanks

That’s a bit pants!
It shouldn’t be a problem, as someone just steered me to Menu 804 on the DigiBeta which is just what I need!
Thanks for the response anyway. 🙂

I thought that the advantages of Dynamic link with After Effects and the other tie-ins would mean that PPro would be a better choice than FCP. However, I just had to post this
https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=3&postid=862782
as my PPro would not connect to my SONY Z1 over Firwire, so perhpas FCP does HDV more painlessly!? Any tips?
(What was the problem with AVID|DS not importing QTs? I thought DS was the business!?)

I haven’t tried recording out to HDV but I very much doubt it would work since PPro can’t control the camera.
This is a fresh installation of the Adobe Creative Suite with a proper HDV camcorder and it just won’t work. Not very imressive.
Any tips much appreciated!

OK. I’ll have to look into that. Good news if it is at least supposed to work!

So what you’re saying is that Edit Original won’t work with .avi’s even (when you use Embed Project Link when you render)

Thanks, these maybe quite good work-arounds. I still think it’ll be a nightmare to work like that, compared to a single integrated piece of software where you can access and alter nested effects properly!
I thought an alternative way might be to render in AE and use ‘Edit Original’ if you need to tweak things after you’ve put the clip into Premiere. Trouble is that ‘Edit Original’ opens Windows Media Player instead of After Effects! I’m using BlackMagic .avi’s. Any thoughts on that one anybody!?
Thanks again
