suddenly i feel really bloody stupid for not having thought about that…. 😀 it never ends…

there is a full keyboard shortcut chart in the help section on AE, i’ve PDFed that to keep it handy while working. i think it includes all shift and alt options…

i’m running a sony HDV-Z1E with an older version of FCP… the camera actually can down-convert to DV on the go as you digitize. you can also choose to shoot on DV rather than HDV when you’re actually recording, but you always have the option to down convert as you output it from teh cam. however you’ll have to choose whether you want to cut sides on the footage or put it in letter-box in the computer as you’re messing up the aspect ratio and the pixels between DV and HDV. it’s a bit confusing to get ones head around, i’m not there yet myself when it comes to all the details, but it does work… problem is though that if you’re looking to then use the material off your computer as outpout from on-line editing, then you don’t need an HDV cam as you don’t gain the resolution from it as you down-convert it.
anyway, there it is.. the camera can do the down-conversion for you, but you won’t benefit from the camera’s higher resolution that way. the new FCP 5 Pro is meant to digitize straight into HDV, but I haven’t had the benefit of running

how do you mean disrupted? wiggle is great of making the text jump around on the screen :: this tute is great:
there is another one which talk more about having two layers of the same text on top of each other , both with with a wiggle expression and then make the bottom one blurry so that one knows what to look at… could be what you’re looking fr. I couldn’t find that tue now though.
the plug-in ECHO comes with AE6.5 maybe not academic versions(?)… it’s easy to use though..
good luck 🙂 /d

cut the building up in photo shop and distort the pieces to loose the feel of perspective on them, then put them together again in AE z-space and put the footage in 3d layers and place it… you can project it onto the sides of the building too for nice fx, there is a great tutorial on projecting in AE by Rich Gerard which deals with footage in this way. I used it to achieve similar to what you want.
good luck: /d 🙂

October 10, 2005 at 9:47 am in reply to: how much would the RAM increase AE’s performance?cool, I had no idea… thanks for the info! I’ll just wait for the g6 🙂 /d

sure no probs, i’ve even had five computers hooked up together and one beautiful day we even managed to get a pc working smoothly with a bunch of macs in a renderfarm… (allthough my old g3 laptop managed to get every fouth frame flickering due to different colour calibration… which wasn’t something I had any interest learning all about immediately so I cut it out of the chain)
the RAM thing is just my concern with being able to work faster with bigger projects. i’m about to shut a single g5 down here and rip out the ram from that and put it in my dual g5 to see if there is any noticable change in speed while working, but i know that this kind of greedy behaviour usually ends in a mess and I’m not interested in doing physical damage to the machines so I though I’d just post the question her first before I create total havoc… thanks for the advice though, render farms are a must! 🙂 /d

you’ re lucky that you’re waiting for such a dream machine and you’re probably right, no amount of RAM will probably be enough to feed big AE projs. it’s funny, i’m not even using really heavy filters yet. I only have 24 or so imported illustrator layers in 3d to build a room with a corridor outside, then I’ve put some textures on the wall. it’s basically when I turn on two or three lights that everything stops all together. i can obviously work without the ligths and textures, but it’s a weird notch in the workflow fron when everything works smoothely and then suddenly chokes. please post a note about you’re upgrade though, if you get the chance. it’d be good to hear how you experience the difference. and thanks for your reply,. d 🙂

sure no probs to make that work in AE, but I think they made it all in flash though, creating the perspective with quite intricate scaling and and squeezing of the images and symbols, and a decent bit of action scripting… i was playing around a lot with flash trying to create 3d feel with 2d objects in flash before diving into ae and the real 2.5D offered there. i don’t know how you’d get the interactivity as a website creating it in AE, but it’d certainly be easier to do it all in AE…
