Disrupted Text Effect?
Posted by Henrik on October 10, 2005 at 1:52 pmHi,
Does anyone now how I can get text to behave disrupted/shaky in After Effects, as in the title sequence to Seven? I want it to quickly appear on screen looking disrupted with “echoes”. Is there an effect that does this, or do I have to animate my text manually?
I would be very grateful for nay clues…
🙂

October 10, 2005 at 3:46 pmhow do you mean disrupted? wiggle is great of making the text jump around on the screen :: this tute is great:
there is another one which talk more about having two layers of the same text on top of each other , both with with a wiggle expression and then make the bottom one blurry so that one knows what to look at… could be what you’re looking fr. I couldn’t find that tue now though.
the plug-in ECHO comes with AE6.5 maybe not academic versions(?)… it’s easy to use though..
good luck 🙂 /d

October 10, 2005 at 10:14 pmThis is how I’ve done this effect before…
I’ve taken the text and put it on a tight and fast, up and down movement on a set path.
Make the movements short and it can appear as though it’s vibrating up and down. The wiggler will give you that look just fine. Then there are two ways of going at this from that point:
1. Sapphire Random_Edits plugin on a new comp layer of that previous animation
– or –
2. You do the “random edits” yourself in your NLE, re-export your randomized movement edit, and go from there.
For that “Se7en” look, I’ve have added some transparancy, b/w scan line filters, noise, and grain. Fox uses this alot in their “scary” drama show promos like Prison Break, House, and Bones. Check those out for reference in how you can make it unique or updated. Handwritten looking fonts complete the Se7en look.
