  • Bear,

Thanks for your reply! It’s good to know that i’m not alone out there. The thing is that I’m much more versed in AE than C4D. I usually work in non-square pixel comps in AE due to the anamorphic 16×9 standard, so I get that part of the problem.
It’s like you say though. The AE (.aec) comp out of C4D always turnd out in square pixels, even if one sets the pixel dimensions specifically to 1.42:1 .. unfortunately it doesn’t work to just changing the pixel dimentions in AE from square to rectangular (not for me anyway) without messing up the camera match from C4D…
so back to where I started I have to correct the frame size in C4D (for the AE export only, that is) to 1024×576 to get a square pixel comp in that format instead which then matches up in AE with my 720×576 anamorphic C4D render…

sorry, feel like i’m just repeating myself, though hoping that something will come out of the mist… please bluntly point out if i’m being thick and missing something obvious here… i think that pondering over this might have somewhat numbed my brain… cheers /d

April 12, 2007 at 9:47 pm in reply to: How is this done?

THis effect could be easily achieved in ae 6.5 with ECHO effect on a small solid in a pre-comp with 3d switch on and collapse transformation clicked (check tutes here at the cow by Joe Chao about confetti i think) a bit tricky with timing cam movements when projs get complex, but i’ve done it several times. unfortunately there is a bug with the echo effect and collapse transformations in ae7… something I hoped would have been fixed in 7.1 but wasn’t… hopefully fixed in cs3!

good ot use lights on the collapsed 3d comp to enhance 3d space.

    good luck! cheers /david

thanks for the advice Mark, but the language was set on british, which is correct and which usually works fine for me. THough after messing about with the settings there a little and trying some other languages, AE started to behave even more strange… alternating apple-Y betwen new solid function and UNDO every second time… also the alt-] worked once… which means that you’re probably on to something as for the input menu, but on the other hand the problem can’t easily be solved. I wonder if this is an Intel mac /AE issue? or just me?
    thanks for your replies/david

cheers, yeah sorry I need stronger medicin though. i realise that my post is flawed, as I didn’t mention that I’ve tried that already. I’ve got sys-shortcuts checked though, and I’ve tried with it unchecked as well. ae doesn’t flinch… it’s really weird. really really weird.

Thanks again, looking forward to checking the file out. I should have realised what the problem was, as it’s a v10 file.
It’s all slowly beginning to make sense though, so that’s good 🙂

    cheers, David

    Thanks for your replies guys!

Don’t know if i’m onto the wrong problem here, but would i be able to have one image split up on several cubes (maybe 50 of them), so that they would come together as a seamless big whole one, when all the cubes are side to side. i guess the hard way of doing it is to cut that big pic up in photoshop and make an individual UV material for each cube… is that what you suggested?

or is there a way of solving that problem in a simpler way, similar to the tute i linked to, but without using mograph?

if this is what you’re actually suggesting i apologise for being thick. i’ve got some experience with c4d, but i’m by no means fluent.

by the way adam, the file you linked to doesn’t open. i also tried to get it from the parent directory, but no dice. c4d said unkown format. if there is any other version of the file, i’d much appreciate having a look at it.

    Thanks,
    david

December 8, 2006 at 9:43 am in reply to: echo in AE7 not working as usual

thanks mylenium for verifying that! i can’t believe it. it must the first time i discover a real bug that i didnt’ know of before. don’t know whether to be happy or cry. i had really planned to use this fx alot for a proj, much along the lines of your pseudo extrude tute.

do you possibly know of any work around?
or does any one perhaps have some advice on a commercial good echo plug which might not have the same bug?

    many thanks /david
