How would I go about creating this type of mograph, in which a line animates along a complex 3d path. There are quite a few similar projects that I’ve seen which incorporate pics/video along the path, and then morph into a Title. Any links to tutorials would be appreciated as well.

    Thanks in advance.

AE paths can’t bend in three dimensions. So complex 3D path = 3D app, not AE. Cinema 4D is usually used for this sort of thing.

Definately one of the most requested effects, but still not possible in AE on a practical level.

Take a look at this tutorial for info on doing it with Maya and C4D:

can you not use 3D stroke with camera moves?

Maybe yes, but with a separate stroke/layer for each bend. You can’t make 3D stroke bend in more than one plane in a controlled manner, so you need to split it up, with a single-plane bend for each layer. If that’s not a problem, give it a go. 🙂

Could it not be done with some sort of particle generator? Something like this is able to bend in all dimensions. Surely it shouldn’t be too hard to make a rectangular shaped particle instead and have it emit enough times per second to make it look as though it’s a solid line… Then you can just keyframe the emitter.

THis effect could be easily achieved in ae 6.5 with ECHO effect on a small solid in a pre-comp with 3d switch on and collapse transformation clicked (check tutes here at the cow by Joe Chao about confetti i think) a bit tricky with timing cam movements when projs get complex, but i’ve done it several times. unfortunately there is a bug with the echo effect and collapse transformations in ae7… something I hoped would have been fixed in 7.1 but wasn’t… hopefully fixed in cs3!

good ot use lights on the collapsed 3d comp to enhance 3d space.

    good luck! cheers /david

    Voila!

Made using Trapcode Particular and a variation on Andrew Kramer’s tutorial here. This method allows full and easy control over the path, although does require Trapcode Particular which would set you back $299… but that is probably cheaper than buying a completely new 3D application.

    Curtoid,

This is the 4th time you have asked the EXACT same question on the COW forums in the last couple of days. Some are live, others I have shut off to cull the noise.

When I wrote you regarding this, the email account was bad and so I have killed the “Curtoid” account.

If you create a new account, please be aware that we watch IPs of problem accounts and will shut-off access from your individual log-in IP if you persist in this kind of thing again.
