Hi all, I’m experiencing very weird shortcut confusion. The ALT(option) key has for example stopped working together with my bracket key to shorten a layer to current point (only one example)… Also my apple (command) key doesn’t UNDO with Z anymore but rather with Y and creating new layer is instead the apple-Z combination all of a sudden(!)
Nothing extravagant happened before the computer decided to take things into it’s own hands a couple of days ago now.
I’ve tried with several keyboards with this quad mactel, and it’s still the same… i’ve also tried trashing the prefs file etc… no go . is there anywhere from inside AE one can set or reset these short cuts?

The normal undo (apple-Z) works fine from inside various other programs such as MS Word, 3D software, CS2, what have you. The Alt key also seems to be working fine elsewhere. Only AE acting up.

Any ideas anyone? At the moment I feel like I’m trying to learn how to walk again, or to brush my teeth with my left hand….

Thanks for any advice? / David

cheers, yeah sorry I need stronger medicin though. i realise that my post is flawed, as I didn’t mention that I’ve tried that already. I’ve got sys-shortcuts checked though, and I’ve tried with it unchecked as well. ae doesn’t flinch… it’s really weird. really really weird.

Are you using a tablet or a bluetooth device? Anything that might have it’s own set of key stroke settings?

Beyond that the only other thing I got is re-install AE and I’d hate to do that with all the settings you have to redo.

thanks, there is a tablet, and I haven’t mucked about with it yet either. cheers for that tip. will give it a go… reinstalling is not a pretty thought, and probably out of the question as well, where i’m sitting… cheers /David

Check to make sure that no one has changed the keyboard language. Alt bracket doesn’t work for me, as my keyboard is set to french cdn.

thanks for the advice Mark, but the language was set on british, which is correct and which usually works fine for me. THough after messing about with the settings there a little and trying some other languages, AE started to behave even more strange… alternating apple-Y betwen new solid function and UNDO every second time… also the alt-] worked once… which means that you’re probably on to something as for the input menu, but on the other hand the problem can’t easily be solved. I wonder if this is an Intel mac /AE issue? or just me?
    thanks for your replies/david

Thats odd. No recent installation of any new software or updates? If not, check permissions, repair permissions and do a fresh restart. The Wacom is most likely not an issue so don’t worry about that. Although it helps to be quite conservative with Wacom updates.
