When you encode to DVD the top part of the video where the CC resides is cropped. You will need to take a TV and hook it up to your system and test it that way or get a VCR and output to it and test it froma there.

Ikegami DNS series. The more you can stay away from tape the better. If your a Mac guy they are coming out with a MXF solution like the XDcams. If your a PC guy it’s copatible with Avid and several others. We just bought the DNS-33 Editcam and am so glad we didn’t go with XDcam.

We have just started and everything works fine. We use the IO LA configuration and output to a Black 720×486 movie with Closed Captions. Crop the Bottom 99% and output over SDI to our IMX and Beta Cam Sp decks.

Xdcam may not be the best for your situation. Grass Valley makes a Harddrive (iVDR) recorder also that I believe you can edit from with a Mac. We installed our studio from scratch last year and wish that we would have gone more the disk recording route rather than tape.

Depending on how long you will need to record for, one suggestion would be Sony Xdcam tapes and edit in Final Cut Pro with a MXF plugin. I’ve been using this and have been able to transfer the files at 2.5x realtime. The only negative is that in IMX 50 it will only record for 45 min and DVcam records 85min.

We are SD only, I’ve thought about the LS but I like that there is some Hardware excelleration with the LH, then again I don’t even know if it is relevant since the AJA doesn’t support IMX.

I to am in a digital world outputing to Analog. We are all SDI capturing to a IMX deck and some xdcam decks for ISO. We do however output our edited product to BetaSP through our system via a AJA SDI to Componet converter. Our Cameras are Ikegami HL-60s.

Should we shade everything to 0ire and then raise it to 7.5 in our editor for output?

I’ve networked my Graphic G5 and Editor G5 successfully. You will have to setup the FW ports in the network config in System Prefs (Manuel DHCP) and will have to get a FW card for the G5 since you can’t use any other internal FW ports when using the IO.

  • The only problem I’ve encountered with that is the IO doesn’t output when there isn’t any video. Go figure.
    Thanks for the help.
