Not in regards to features but it shed 7GB of code and is 64bit. Open CL looks pretty promising but don’t think FCS will take advantage of it anytime soon.

Steve Jobs, who do you think. Support. If the Machine is a Mac Pro more than likely it’s under warranty if it has Apple Care and if not a lot of time they have gotten me out of minor jams recently with my G5’s.

How old is the machine that you are on? The new upgrade is Intel only, so no G5 or G4.

Yes got the update for Leopard and no progress, same problems. Works fine with XDcam but not with IMX e-vtr

Here’s a question I’ve always wondered, why doesn’t Sony take Vegas seriously? You can’t find it anywhere on their broadcast site where you would think they would try and market it to Professionals in the business. Instead it’s on their consumer site, I don’t know maybe it’s bad marketing. I’ve heard good things about it, mainly from audio guys who are having to cut video.

Yeah I’m waiting for the first full feature film that’s been cut on the new iPhone editing app, Kind of like that one movie that was cut on iMovie years ago. What was it “Deep Blue” or something like that?

But I’d like to be able to include a caption file like a file that comes from our caption software to use in FCP to create a complete air copy with captioning, without having to use our encoder (which is SD only). “ – Wayne Carey
Not sure what’s new with the update, we’ve been doing this for years with Mac Caption. Export a black video file with Closed Captions at the top and bottom, import it into FCP, crop all but the top line, lay it over our program in our sequence and print it to tape. We’ve been doing this for 4-5 years now.

I do wonder though if it is multicore enhanced since it’s Intel only? But I’m not holding my breath.

SD or HD? Your thoughts? … If you can afford HD get it, HD over the internet is just coming alive in the states, not sure about Japan but from what I heard Japan’s internet access is broadly faster than ours. If not, SD with be more than adequate. If you are on a tighter budget be careful what cameras you are looking at. Some SD cameras outperform the cheaper HD cameras when uprezed. Our Ikegami HL-60ws outperformed Panasonic’s HD studio cameras when uprezzed with a Terranix box.
Tape, HDD or both? ….HDD no doubt about it, we are doing whatever we can to get away from Tape. Telestream’s pipeline maybe worth taking a look at. For archive LTO 4 works well. It’s tape but stores a lot more footage than traditional video tape and transfers much faster. Sony XDCam series is another option, we have been using for 5 years now and don’t have any complaints.
Camera choices and reputations? Ikegami & Sony are the kings in their field, although Ikegami works better with skin tones providing richer reds than Sony.
