[Graham Stewart] “Devlin, how are you getting anamorphic SD to work in FCPX? Are you simply taking in a squashed 4:3 video and scaling it? I ask because I have DV-PAL files which have a 16:9 flag embedded in them somewhere, and even though they display 16:9 in FCPX’s viewer the image quality is appalling. It’s as if FCPX isn’t able to correctly render it (whereas it does so fine in FCP7 etc).”

You might need to go into your Preferences and switch your setting to Better Qualilty. Also if you go into your viewer at the top right corner under where you turn the scopes on select “Both Fields”. That makes the biggest difference.

  • The technology behind the new FCPX is the right step but can you imagine how much pain they would have avoided if they had kept a similar UI? I can understand that some of the main features are not there yet, my IT director told me that 64bit apps take a ton of code to right, Windows 7 took 58million lines of code to write, more than 1 person could write in a lifetime. But at this point the biggest deal breaker is not being able to share your projects or events or whatever you call them with others. Or maybe I’m missing something.

Satire from the Mobile Me debacle:

At one point, Jobs asked his team what MobileMe was supposed to do. Upon receiving an answer he quickly fired back, “So why the f*** doesn’t it do that?” Jobs even invoked the name of trusty ally Walt Mossberg – who was critical of MobileMe – to drive home the point that the MobileMe rollout was a flop.

Actually the rumor mills have the next Mac Pro being rack mountable. So we’ll see what comes this August when the next Mac Pros roll out.

    2 things:
    1. Great scaling from SD to HD, took an anamorphic SD clip and uprezed it to 720 60p and looks awesome.
    2. The scopes, Tektronics and Leader need to implement what FCPX has done to the waveform monitor in FCPX.

Final Cut Pro 7 still works just like it did yesterday and will for some time to come. There are quite a few people that still use FCP 5 & 6. Will FCP7 work on Lion? Doesn’t sound like it will. But you don’t have Lion right now anyways and won’t need it til your current computer keels over and need to upgrade. So for now FCP7 works.

Don’t purchase it if you don’t have the extra cash to test it with.

Haven’t tried that feature yet but not much has changed. I would wait and hold on to your $50 bucks. The only new thing that I see is the way it distributes encoding no longer using qmaster.

  • Sorry but I’m not seeing this issue. Nothing that I’ve edited so far has changed the original media.

Look like the transfer is being replaced for support in Lion.
