FCPX and XDCam/XDcam EX
Posted by Steve Connor on June 21, 2011 at 3:59 pmDoes the release version of the software work natively with XDCam/XDcam EX footage, Gary mentioned his beta version didn’t but they do seem to be part of the codec downloads.

its a semantic issue for me.
Sony support in FCPX requires that you use the Sony XDCam Transfer Tool, just like you did in FCP7
I just cannot call that “native” file handling, because it is not.

June 21, 2011 at 4:21 pmThat’s depressing because XDcam Transfer won’t work with Lion and Sony have announced they will never support it because they want you to use the awful XDCam Browser, which probably won’t work with Lion when it’s released anyway.
Luckily I already have PPro which works with XDcam natively just fine

June 21, 2011 at 4:26 pmWhy won’t it work with Lion? Has Sony stated this? Or is the sky falling?

June 21, 2011 at 4:30 pmThis is truly a major BUST!
We’re left with no native XDCAM support in FCPX and no XDCAM Transfer for Lion.
Apple has just a few weeks to motivate Sony to develop XDCAM Browser support in FCPX on Lion (coming in July). Sony tends to be slow on this stuff. So the supposed file based NLE FCPX cant support file based XDCAM as it stands. We are left with hoping or moving.

June 21, 2011 at 4:48 pmLook like the transfer is being replaced for support in Lion.

June 21, 2011 at 7:18 pmGary, can you confirm that files that have been “unwrapped” by XDcam Transfer do work OK in FCPX

June 21, 2011 at 7:37 pmI tried this earlier today and it worked. The clips looked great. Hopefully this process is only temporary.
Best,
