I didn’t know about this script, at first glance, it looks very useful! Re-typing all the data entry is definitely a time killer, and something I avoided till necessary last time.

Thanks for this tip, I will definitely look into it. Any more tips from any one is also appreciated!

    UPDATE:

In case anyone else comes across this issue and actually reads this conversation with myself… We (me and helpful Bruce at PluralEyes) have determined that CS5 will not import XMLs if there are Sony XDCam files in the project… which has been the root of my problem.

This issue has apparently been fixed in CS 5.5.

September 2, 2011 at 4:48 pm in reply to: XML export then import failure in CS5

    Update:

I have successfully imported an XML project file generated on a MAC’s Final Cut Pro.

Also, I tried importing another premiere CS5-generated XML running on another computer here, and again it failed, “corrupt or damaged project”

If anyone is reading these, some help would be really appreciated.

    Thx

August 12, 2010 at 5:24 pm in reply to: Import SoftImage 3D model?

Thanks again for all your help Joe.

I ended up taking what I know to the next level. I’ve scrapped the true 3D idea, and instead built my logo with a couple hundred layers offset by one pixel each to create a 3D logo entirely with AE.

Render was quite slow, but the results look good. When time slows down, I will build on my education with other options. And thanks for the 32-64 bit Blender tip, I have installed it now. And will attack it someday.

    Thanks,

    Hey Joe,

I had the same thought about invigorator. So I went to blow the dust off of the version I had installed on my old PC with CS3, and attempted to install it on my new PC… but then I remembered that I now have a fancy 64 bit Windows 7 machine and the old plugin wouldn’t work. I went to see if they had released an update, which they haven’t. AND… they say when its ready, it will not be a free upgrade. In fact, it won’t even be available at upgrade price.. they’re gonna try to make us pay full price all over again just to keep up with the times. No thanks. I’m gonna save my pennies and get a real 3D program next time.

Another thought i had was to get Blender… cause its free, and maybe it could help me somehow. Or i could even buck up and finally learn a 3d program. But nope, it doesn’t seem to be available in 64 bit yet either. So my hands are tied there too.

I found a site that lets me download free 3D Studio Max models. I believe the extention was ‘.3ds’. And that I was able to import into Photoshop, save as a PSD and then import into AE while retaining 3D perspective… so there might be potential there if SoftImage can make such a file. The lighting and colouring I think I’d have to do in Photoshop, but its better than nothing i think.

If you’re still reading this, thanks again Joe, and anyone else that wants to share their 2 cents.

    Thanks for the tip.

  • I agree with Kevin. And I would also add that you should try to parent your camera to a 3D Null, place the 3D Null in the same (or near) XYZ position as your Particlar layer, and then animate the Null’s rotation values. This makes for much easier method of orbiting the camera around any point than trying to do it using a combination of the camera’s position and rotation/orientation values.

    Good Luck,

June 8, 2009 at 9:41 pm in reply to: EX-3 HD to SD best methods?

On this topic, what issues am i encountering if i bring Sony HD MXF files into a 16:9 SD NTSC project, place the file on the timeline and scale to fit the frame?

ie, I have 1440×1080 (1.333) 30P footage, scaled to 45% (which pretty much fits perfectly

If this is a bad method, what would be the ideal way for me to mix a variety of formats in Premier?

btw.. using PPro CS3 on PC

    Thanks!

No it doesn’t seem to be a particular clip. I’ve had that problem before, and this doesn’t seem to be the case. Do u know of any performance settings I could adjust that may improve my situation?

I should also mention they are Sony XDcam MXF files. Not P2.
