…i answered my own question… When in doubt.. go to Microsoft….
SYMPTOMS
When you play a media clip in Microsoft Windows Media Player 10, the caption bar appears without the caption text. This problem occurs if the media source uses Microsoft Synchronized Accessible Media Interchange (SAMI) closed-caption captioning. The problem also occurs in other Microsoft multimedia programs, such as Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia.
Back to the topCAUSE
This problem may occur when you play the media clip from a media source on your local computer.Note The media source can be a CD, a hard disk, or a media file that is saved on your local computer.
Back to the topWORKAROUND
To work around this problem, first check to make sure that the media source contains captions. If captions are present, follow these steps:1. Start Windows Media Player 10.
2. On the Play menu, point to Captions and Subtitles, and then click On if Available.
3. Try playing the media clip again.
4. If the problem still occurs, click Options on the Tools menu.
5. On the Security tab, click to select the Show local captions when present check box, and then click OK. -
My old PC was a 1.7ghz dual processor with 2gb ram. It acted the same way as this one. I upgraded from Vegas 5.0b to 6.0, hoping that would solve the issue, but it didn’t. I don’t have any anti-virus running, our company filters most of that on the server before it gets to opur PCs..however, I do run Spybot from time to time. I use Nero to burn my DVDs and CD. When I capture, I use either a Sony MiniDV deck and a Sony DVD recorder thru fire wire, if I have to ….I’ll use a VHS connected by RCA….Every capture devise does the same thing…

..But Wait..There’s More..now that my project has been delivered, and I can begin testing some things out, I’ve discovered that Vegas 6 will push out MPEG1 and MPEG2 videos without any problems….I’m still having the issue when capturing video..it still locks up… Dennis

Thanks…I looked for an update to DVDA2.0, but found nothing about DL support….I’m burning 3 hours of video to the DL discs. I don’t have a menu system set up because there’s no need for one with this project. Do I still need to create (prepare)the Video TS and Audio TS folders in DVDA2.0 then burn them in Nero or can I just take the MPEG2 file and burn it directly to Nero?

Thanks…Actually, I’m burning 3 hours of video, so my MPEG2 files are around 6gb…

April 8, 2005 at 12:12 am in reply to: Adjustable Time Code Generator for Vegas 5.0d?Well, I owe you a cold one!…At least you pointed me in the right direction!…Actually, what has to happen, is adjust the ruler (like you said..)to where you want the time code to start….THEN add timecode as a “Video OUTPUT Event”… NOT as an Video Event FX!….BAM! the time code comes in like nobody’s business! There ya GO! Thanks! Dennis

April 7, 2005 at 11:22 pm in reply to: Adjustable Time Code Generator for Vegas 5.0d?Man…you really had my hopes up!…I adjusted the ruler, that worked..and maybe I’m just a liitle confused, but when I add the video event “timecode” to the clip, the generated time code just reflects start (00:00:00) and stop (xx:xx:xx:) of the clip. It doesn’t register where I set the ruler….Is there something I’m missing here?…If So…PLEASE let me in on it! Thanks
