I could be totally wrong, but it seems to me at first glance, that you’re using a very thin, curvy font in an SD output.

What if you tried editing the same thing in HD, do you get the same problem?
What if you try a thicker (sans serif) font in SD, do you get the same problem?

[Faraz Mozafarian] “1) In FCP you could select a clip on the timeline type in any number and it would move that clip. So for instance if you typed “5” it would move the clip 5 frames forward on the timeline. If you type “-5″ it would move the clip 5 frames back. I can’t seem to do this is Premiere.”

on Mac shift+command+right arrow for 5 frames right, left for left. cmd+right arrow will move it one frame right

[Faraz Mozafarian] “2) Snapping: I really don’t like the snapping feature in Premiere seems like it does work nearly as well as FCP. For instance, is there any way to make the razor tool snap to the playhead? it’s hard to get precision cuts.”

You can turn off snapping of course and it will snap to the play head. You also want to make sure your track targets are active. Tell us what you’d like to see.

[Faraz Mozafarian] “3)Key framing audio. In FCP, I would import a video clip that I shot and it would import it as 1V and 2A channels. If i wanted to adjust the gain of the audio I would move the handle in A1 and A2 would move with it. They were linked. In premiere they are not linked this way. If I move the handle on A1 I have to repeat the same thing on A2. They don’t move together. IS there something I am missing here? Can I combine the 2 audio tracks into 1 track?”

This is a fundamental difference between Premiere Pro and FCP7. in Premiere Pro, you have a track based audio mixer. In FCP you have a clip based mixer. In order to get clip based functionality where an audio level change will move with the clip, you need to key frame ‘in-line’ or on the track. Make sure that the audio track is showing keyframes and that you have volume selected. Then you should be able to add keyframes directly on the audio track. I found this link which I think will put you on the right track: https://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/premiere-pro-track-audio/

    Hope this helps,

    James,

I am SO staying away from that loaded gun of a question! 😉

Seriously, as a vendor, I may know a bunch of things but I also had better have decorum and respect. Why Apple did it only they truly know. I have my opinions and if you ever get in front of me face to face, I’ll be happy to share.

    Thanks,

[James Ewart] “And now I think I would miss auditions, compound clips, no rendering. Has the Mercury playback engine in Premiere also dispensed with the need for rendering for playback purposes…I suspect that may be the case.”

I would say that Premiere Pro has more ‘no rendering’ than any other NLE out there. Of course I’m biased! 😉 Seriously though, the goal of the Premiere Pro team is to NEVER make you render until you’re ready for creating final output. I would say that Premiere Pro offers far more real-time capabilities than FCP X.

As for a couple of features that FCP X has – I agree that every NLE has a couple of nifty things and I like both of the ones you mention. Put in a feature request to the Adobe team: Adobe Feature Request form

    Cheers,

Why don’t you sync the clip to your camera 1 clip and see if that helps you out. Another thing is that you could be trying to play the clip while the audio is still conforming – look for a little progress bar in teh lower right side of the Premiere Pro interface.

Are you using a Premiere Pro trial? Will the file play in VLC Player?

That’s a little bit of a generalization. There are so many working groups within companies like Disney, BBC, Viacom etc.

While I am on the other side of the pond, I know that we are working with several (dare I say many) groups at BBC.

Life changing for computer nerds… I can’t go back at least for my laptop. I’m trying to get some more for my desktops…

[Lance Bachelder] “The Quadro 4000 is underpowered, overpriced and almost as old as the MacPro… if you buy one do not buy it from Apple store – you can save hundreds at other sites.”

Totally agree that customers can probably save some $$$ on graphics card by purchasing separately.

While the technology may be a couple of years old, it is still an excellent card. More importantly, one of the distinctions about Quadro vs. GeForce is that the card’s shelf life lasts over several years which is important to larger enterprises that may want to buy a PC 12-24 months later and still be able to buy the same thing essentially. This is important for some but not all customers. Think VizRT and other more broadcast centric installations for example.GeForce comes and goes in 12 months or less typically.

And don’t forget that NVIDIA and other suppliers are often limited by what Apple chooses to support. On the PC you could get the 2000,4000,5000, 6000, 6000D, C2075, etc. On the Mac, just the 4000, and no GeForce (officially). So part of the problem may also rest with Apple.
