Can’t import AVI files into Premiere Pro CS6
Posted by Dougie Campbell on November 17, 2012 at 2:54 pmJust installed Premiere Pro CS6(PC)on a new machine.I can see and play the AVI files in bridge but when I try to import it says there’s a file issue and won’t import.
Are these files I need to convert to a different format or do I need to add a specific codec to the new machine.Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated

November 17, 2012 at 3:08 pmYou’ll get a much quicker answer if you tell us what the format of the file is. It would seem to me that it’s an uninstalled codec, but it’s hard to tell without knowing what flavor of avi it is.

November 18, 2012 at 12:41 amAre you using a Premiere Pro trial? Will the file play in VLC Player?

November 18, 2012 at 11:00 amNo it’s not a trial. However it is from Creative Cloud.
It seems I’m not alone with this issue:
https://forum.grassvalley.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27527I don’t think I have avlc player on the new machine. However it plays fine with Bridge

June 19, 2013 at 5:55 amThere are two typical issues from the Premiere users quoted as below. Playback is jerky or Unsupported file format/codec. Since we can’t use AVI files in Premiere as source video files and have them look good at all, why not try to convert these AVI to a Premiere Pro most compatible format e.g. MPEG-2.
