    Hello All,

I just recently made the switch from FCP 7 to Premiere CS6.

There are a few questions I have about features that were in FCP that I can’t seem to find in Premiere. Any help would be much appreciated.

    1) In FCP you could select a clip on the timeline type in any number and it would move that clip. So for instance if you typed “5” it would move the clip 5 frames forward on the timeline. If you type “-5” it would move the clip 5 frames back. I can’t seem to do this is Premiere.

    2) Snapping: I really don’t like the snapping feature in Premiere seems like it does work nearly as well as FCP. For instance, is there any way to make the razor tool snap to the playhead? it’s hard to get precision cuts.

3)Key framing audio. In FCP, I would import a video clip that I shot and it would import it as 1V and 2A channels. If i wanted to adjust the gain of the audio I would move the handle in A1 and A2 would move with it. They were linked. In premiere they are not linked this way. If I move the handle on A1 I have to repeat the same thing on A2. They don’t move together. IS there something I am missing here? Can I combine the 2 audio tracks into 1 track?

    Thanks for the help!

on Mac shift+command+right arrow for 5 frames right, left for left. cmd+right arrow will move it one frame right

You can turn off snapping of course and it will snap to the play head. You also want to make sure your track targets are active. Tell us what you’d like to see.

This is a fundamental difference between Premiere Pro and FCP7. in Premiere Pro, you have a track based audio mixer. In FCP you have a clip based mixer. In order to get clip based functionality where an audio level change will move with the clip, you need to key frame ‘in-line’ or on the track. Make sure that the audio track is showing keyframes and that you have volume selected. Then you should be able to add keyframes directly on the audio track. I found this link which I think will put you on the right track: https://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/premiere-pro-track-audio/

    Hope this helps,
    Dennis
