When you exported out of FCP, did you enable the chapter markers in the second drop-down of the export window? (I’m rendering and can’t look it up to give you specifics right now)

You should have Boris. It comes with FCP. It’s much better than the FCP text generators.
If it wasn’t installed originally, go to the original install disks and you can select to just install Boris.

Copy the clip being replaced first using CMD+c.
Replace the clip. Right-click (or CTRL+click if you are of the one-button mouse persuasion) on the new clip in the timeline and select
“Paste Attributes” from the drop-down that appears. Tick the “Filters” box. Hit “Ok”.That should do it. There are some cases where keyframed events don’t paste in, however. Let us know if it doesn’t work right, with details on how it’s not working right, and we can come up with other options that suit your needs.

You could return the drive to them. Reformatted.
The drive is their property. The files on it that you created are not their property, not until they pay you. That’s your collateral.
If you have another drive of your own, copy the files from their drive, erase them from their drive and then return their property. At their expense and at your convenience, as Tony rightly suggests. You are under absolutely NO obligation to go out of your way to return it to them. It’s their responsibility to make arrangements.
But you really can’t knowingly keep it. It would still be considered theft, even if they owe you money. They are two independent issues. Connected, yes, but still independent.

Read that again. 1 file was recognized. That usually menas you’re ok. Were you trying to import 1 file that was in a folder? I bet that the QT file came from a PC, or were transported on a drive that can be read by a PC. A files gets added to the directory on drives or memory sticks that are formatted so a PC can read them. If you were to go back and try it again, the QT file you wanted very well might have worked. It likely was the 1 file that was recognized. The 1 Unkown is usually the FINDER.DAT file in the directory. I’m not entirely sure what the “0 access denied” means, but as long as it says “0 access denied”, it doesn’t sound ominous. Nothing was denied!
This happens to me when a client gives me PSDs on a memory stick that she uses on her PC and I don’t delete the FINDER.DAT file out the folder and before I use the Import Folder function in FCP.
Did the error stop you in your tracks, or did you go in and look at the 1 file that was “recognized”?

Does iMovie recognize the camera? If not, my guess is that the FW port on the camera is no longer functioning. Can you borrow another camera and see if FCP sees a different camera? If you can get another camera to work, it narrows down from where the malfunction originiates.
If iMovie does see the camera, then are you SURE you didn’t upgrade to QT 7? History shows us that Mr. Wright would likely then be right…er, correct!

Did you reformat the drive before you started capturing?
It sounds suspiciously like you have an NTFS formatted drive. One flavor of NTFS has a 2 GB file size limit, another has a 4 GB limit.
Reformat the drvie in Disk Utility HFS+ (aka MAC OS Extended, journaling off) and recapture. I don’t think you can rescue those 2 GB files & use them efficiently, but I could be mistaken. You can copy everything on that drive to another drive for safe keeping and move it back after you reformat, as reformatting destroys all data on the disk.
Always reformat a drive out of the box. Even if it claims to be pre-formatted for the Macintosh.

Depends on how he exports, I suppose. If he just hits the spacebar and records wild, then it wouldn’t automatically render. The original poster didn’t specify his method.
But point taken. If he’s exporting for DVD, using Edit to Tape or Print to Video, it would automatically render.

Did you do a full render before exporting? A real time effect can run oddly if not fully rendered for output.

I actually almost lost the whole post. As Webmaster Eric figured out, I had a tragic typo that triggered the “Parental Advisory-Explicit Content” filter. Oopsie! …and I proofread, really I do!
I suppose posting because I’m exhausted yet can’t sleep is a recipe for typos!
Thanks for the kind words. I also think Tony’s suggestion below about the labor board is excellent. I never even considered that!
